THE SCIENCE
Semaglutide (commonly referred to by its brand names Ozempic and Wegovy) is a medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. It’s a GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning it helps to stimulate the pancreas to release insulin and inhibits the release of too much glucose into the bloodstream. It also promotes fullness by slowing the emptying of your stomach, subsequently reducing hunger.

Although it’s been around for a long time, it recently hit the headlines because of its rumoured use by a number of high-profile celebrities for quick and dramatic weight loss.

I lost 15 kilos within a year by just changed my diet (BMI FROM 27 to 23.1), mainly reduce sugar to minimum. Although this is very often complicated, thanks to sugar industry, I make take this in principle for the rest of my life.

Ozempic has "saved" my life. I was 332 and currently hanging around 268 (19.2% weight loss so far), but with the drive to get back to my thinnest weight of 235 (where my family thought I was too thin). Right now, it doesn't look like I am heavy, but I know if I was 235, I could lose 30 more pounds. I had dark gray, fuzzy patches on the skin on my feet and dry skin all over my body. They're gone, and my skin feels like a baby's bottom. I had eye swelling issues, but they are gone. I had sleeping issues. Gone. I had severe energy issues. Gone. I had gout. Gone. I had knee and hip arthritic pain. Gone. I stopped taking all of the medications. My waist is the smallest it's ever been. I would love to get off of Ozempic too. But I am scared about weight rebounding. What ticks me off, I will always be clinically obese with BMI assessments. Then again, Steve Austin was clinically obese, too, based on that ridiculousness.

I’ve been on Ozempic for a year an a half. I’ve lost 87lbs. I am thankful my doctor offered this to me after struggling for a few years with trying to lose the weight. When I started I had 150lbs to lose now getting close to wanting to be in a healthy range, my original goal weight will change. It was worth it and I am lucky enough my insurance covers it.

I lost 70lbs and it seems like I will be on this for a very long time. I’m proud of my self, I workout everyday and a strict diet. It’s been about a year and no side affects.

I've lost 65 pounds in 7 months, but I have had quite a bit of nausea and some vomiting. I'm down 6 dress sizes I am not complaining. Also I'm a Canadian, Ozempic is covered 100% for me.

I’m so glad I came across this video!!! I started Ozempic 7 weeks ago. I’ve recently figured out that really greasy or fatty foods cause me to vomit. I don’t eat a lot of that normally so it helps in my eating better. I definitely do not get hungry very often. I have lost 7-10 pounds in 7 weeks. I have about 30-40 pounds to lose plus I’m type two diabetic.
Thank you for this video!!!

This is very well done and insightful. I am a physician with clinical obesity and have lost 15 % of my body weight in the last 6 months on wegovy and still going. It’s important to remember this isn’t a quick fix. Thank you for the video, very educational.

I didn’t know celebrities they were taking Ozempic until I seen this video. Now it makes sense on why people are saying there is a shortage. I’ve been taking this as well for 8 months, I can tell you that the shot doesn’t just work by itself. You honestly have to do the work behind the scenes. I have noticed when I stick to my meal plan I see the most results, my approach to this was not to look at this as a diet. I went from 194 to current weight 153. I am a size 6 now. I didn’t know I even had a insulin resistance or any thyroid issues until I got blood work. You’re right the ‘yo-yo’ is a real thing, but my approach this time was to learn how to eat differently and to gain as much muscle as possible so the fat has a harder time coming back. Every meal I either drink or eat my protein. This ‘drug’ has helped me immensely, I can’t say enough about it. I had a BMI of 34 when I started, current BMI is 22 🎉. I pay for this product every 12 weeks. I increased my amount gradually, the first 2 months were the hardest. So if you’re reading this, and you’re experiencing sickness, stick with it. Completely normal! I’m so grateful for this product, I have never been this size or weight. I’m scared of the rebound, I am tired of yo-yo dieting and I’m hoping for the best here.

I’ve been on Monjaro since August and have lost 62 pounds. I am morbidly obese and was pre-diabetic. My Highest A1C has gone from highest of 6.5 to now 5.5! It’s been a miracle for me after many many years of trying to loose even having bariatric surgery.

I appreciate the well researched approach you take with Ozempic. It's not a miracle drug, and it's DEFINITELY not meant for everyone. You did a very good job of explaining the side effects, $$, and what happens when you stop taking it. I am a medical provider myself and constantly dealing with misinformation. I commend you for following the SCIENCE and this is a great explainer for people who are considering this new trendy medication. THANK YOU.

I can appreciate the successes in those who are obese, but I'm a type 2 diabetic that uses this for a1c regulation. I've had to go SIX WEEKS without it due to a shortage of it because of the prescriptions for those who are not diabetic. I'm not the only one going through this, but my a1c was finally starting to regulate and now I'm experiencing serious side effects because it's out of my system. It is upsetting that those that need it for a1c regulation can't get it because it's being used for other reasons than what it was made for.

I have used every diet pill since I was 12 thanks to my mother's friend being a doctor and my mother thinking that a kid that was chubby was too fat. So as I grew into a teen I really dealt with the whole fat kid syndrome from bullies and family members most of my life. So I got sick around the time covid happened and I got onto Keto for a year and a half along with fasting too. I lost 150 pounds, once I got off keto, I gained it all back. Now I am on Ozempic and am back to losing again. This life of obesity and no self control due to eating disorders is the hardest part of living. So I have to try despite the dangers.

I’ve been taking Wegovy since 1/14/23 started on .25 dose for 4 weeks and just did 2nd shot of .50 dose. So far the only side effect has been constipation which I’ve so far, been able to manage. Since taking Wegovy I’ve lost 20 pounds on top of what I had already lost for a grand total of 40 pounds.I’m feeling great hope for the Wegovy to help me in my quest to get this weight off before having any major health issues. I’m just under 60 and want to be who I’ve always wanted to be but had failed so many times before. 🙏

I am a family doctor, there is no medication without risks. The way we assess the risks of complications is on the basis of ratio of benefits to harms. We don't just throw away a medication simply because they have side effects!! You might have Side effects after taking Ozempic! However the risk of obesity on different parts of the body is significantly more.

Ozempic was a life saver for me. I am a type two diabetic and it is so nice to go days without my blood sugar monitor going off. Not to mention all the horrific side effects all the type two diabetics medicines other than Ozempic had. God bless whoever invented this stuff.

I have been taking Ozempic for 4.5 months and have lost nearly to 40lbs. A1c has dropped from 8.8 to 6.1. Your information is correct, well explained, but also terrifying to me as a diabetic.

A new lease on life suddenly has a tight leash of death--both with or without the drugs!

That said, I think the most important thing a person must do if they're in the clinical category is to develop a comprehensive way of discipline for both anxiety and resisting the hormone driven urge to eat for when we eventually go off of Ozempic.

Thank you for informing us with keen knowledge, kindness and professionalism.
