Wow, great information. I have been suffering from my neck pain a lot lately. I can't even read looking down so long. I can't even do the dishes so long. I was told my physical therapist once that I needed neck strengthening exercises. I actually tried to sleep without a pillow last night. It actually felt better. Thanks. I have punched the "like" button and started to subscribe your channel from today.

Thank you! I’ve been unable to move my neck for 4+ months and simply sleeping on my back and stomach are helping greatly. Especially feel the stretch in my neck when sleeping on my stomach. Surprisingly I wake up with just a little more mobility. Now if I start doing all the neck stretches on the regular maybe it will go away…🤞🙏

I'm so glad I found this video. I mostly slept without a pillow since childhood, but the problem is that I'm a side sleeper. I have chronic migraine, tension headaches, and bad pasture that I'm working on correcting. I'm focusing on sleeping on my back now and really thought I should invest in a good pillow. I'm glad to know now that I don't.
It's ok that the neck has no support while sleeping on your back? I thought that would build tension... I'm also glad to see that sleeping on the stomach is OK, because I love to sleep on my stomach.
I'm going to watch more of your videos to see what other tips you have 👌🏽

Hello! your videos are super clear, fun to watch and soothing too. Subscribed and liked. I'm a product designer designing a cervical traction pillow for a client and i'm a bit doubtful on it's purpose now : sleeping without a pillow brings the neck in towards the shoulder, but cervical traction pillows make your head go even farther from the shoulders ahead. So why do these cervical traction pillows even exist? If all they do is push your head away from the shoulders ? Your help would be much appreciated, and once again, thank you so much!

Why then does literally every single physio on this website alone recommend the McKenzie roll support pillow be put inside a pillow case to support the neck when sleeping, especially when you are having neck pain issues?? Are they all wrong?? This is the ONLY video I have seen that says a neck roll is not recommended. I will keep using one thanks. Better some support than ZERO support.

When people work at their desks, their mid back hunches, their neck flexes forward as a result, and they compensate with chin lift to get their eyes back up. This means they hinge at the c1-c2 vertebrae, not the whole neck. Thats why there is overwhelming kyphosis (hunched neck) with desk workers. Its not an "extended" neck problem.

I sleep on my back on a Japanese floor futon. I don't like pillows. Was recently sleeping with a buckwheat neck roll. The first night felt good like it was stretching my neck back into position. But now it is making my neck stiff. I don't like pillows, but I don't like that without a pillow it seems my chin curves down too much instead of my head staying straight overnight.

Why you said no to neck roll ? Is it good for cervical patients? There is pillow available with neck roll then why said no to it?

Hi, and thank you for your information and education. A couple questions, please:
- What is that you’re using in your video for side-sleeping, and where/how do I get it?
- If I am both a back and side sleeper, and am not aware of the transitions from back to side in my sleep, how do I operate with that, since I feel more need for more support for my neck while on my side, (and as you demonstrated in your video)?

I’m not sure if I will be able to both grab and remove the rolled up item while sleeping. Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help ~

I’m going to try this starting tonight. I have really bad stiffness and pain when I wake up and I’ve used so many “neck support” pillows.

Thank you for sharing these tips. I'll have to try them. I know my neck posture isn't great (i've already had to pull my head back just while writing this comment!) and it really takes some self awareness to remember to keep my head up and neck back while sitting.

I have straight neck. Chiro recommended rolled up towel for neck traction. Should I continue. I suffer from pain at the base of skull which triggers tightness in my eye and temporal region and top of my head.

Thank you for the video! I've watched many videos about sleeping, and this is the first one that says not to use a cervical pillow. I'm going to try it for the next couple of days, but I'm worried that lying on my back with no pillow under the neck will bend my chin forward and block my airway which will result in sleep apnea or snoring. When I use a cervical neck pillow my neck is straight in the front and so I don't have trouble with snoring or breathing. What are your thoughts/suggestions? Thank you!
