This guy doesn't understand that it's a mid-cycle refresh and NOT a new generation Deck - think PS5 vs PS5 slim or OG Switch vs. Switch OLED. In fact, Valve went far beyond what Sony or Nintendo did - almost everything apart from the outer shell was improved on the OLED Deck. It has a substantially better screen, much better battery life (up to 50%!), is quieter, cooler, lighter, has better audio, better haptics, faster RAM, more storage, faster wi-fi and costs almost the same as the OG Deck...and this guy ridiculously says there's barely been any improvements!

The only thing that wasn't substantially improved was the APU (you still get a 2-8% perf increase mainly because of the RAM speed bump) and Valve stated that they wanted to present a standard perf base for devs to target for a while longer. I think this is why the guy's so salty - it's a Deck 1.5 and he simply doesn't understand the very well known refresh cycle that consoles go through.

I think if you only upgrade a device when there's a big perf bump (which usually only comes out with a new generation), then the Deck OLED is not worth upgrading to from your LCD Deck. For absolutely everyone else, the OLED Deck is probably the most impressive mid-cycle refresh I've ever seen in a gaming device and cements the Deck as the PC handheld to buy.

Almost everything this guy said was wrong - he even ridiculously compared the Ally and Switch OLED screens to claim the Deck didn't need an OLED screen! Other reviewers have stated the Deck's OLED screen is the best of any handheld and has the bonus of HDR on some games too.

Thinking that the Deck 2 could have Windows on it by default is laughable - one of the main reasons SteamOS and the Deck exists is that Valve want to avoid the possibility that Microsoft could lock down Windows game installs to be exclusively from the Windows Store. They've already tried this twice with Windows RT and Windows 10S, so it's not impossible they could try this with mainstream Windows too. Windows 11 is a terrible OS on PC handhelds and it's the main reason I discount the Ally, Legion Go, GPD and Ayaneo devices.

Imagine talking about 6nm vs 7nm APU and bringing up a physical thickness as a valid point for comparison... Truly an expert review zone...

Next video: Why I regret buying Steam Deck OLED

You're welcome

to understand how much he is an expert. 6 nm is not the size of the processor, it is the size of one transistor, of which there are about 10 billion in the processor. the smaller the transistor, the less energy it consumes

He is just hating everyone, the original steam deck is pound for pound better then the Rog, Valve has just made sure that it stays that way. 😂😂.

So many wrong in your first initial minutes that i just stopped watching.

1) its a refresh, not a successor.

2) what the "spec" sheets dont tell you is that they have optimized the hardware and bios. It will consistently draw low to mid power even on HDR + 90hz.

3) the 1nm "smaller" is not to "save" space, its the new chip that helps with the new optimization.

4) the OLED screen "kills 3 Birds with 1 stone" so to speak. Thinner, giving it space to add the bigger battery and the bigger better quieter fan. Also it help manage power better than the LCD due do deep black not using any energy.

They pulled a nintendo, a company that always focus on optimization. They for example wont release a console that wont last at least 2 hours, and need a wall every hour. Then it defeats the purpose of being handheld.

Even your Cult of the Lamb comparison shows that you are very unlearned in hardware software. The performance on switch is the devs lack of optimization. When you compare to Zelda TOTK, thats more demanding but more optimize and that just shows how important optimization for the First Party is.

I have ROG Ally, dont get me wrong, its great. Its my daily driver, but your reasoning is very childish and unprofessional.

The specs you showed at 1:00 are slightly incorrect: The LCD models have a 40 Wh battery, not 45 Wh. And the lowest storage option is 64 GB. Weird to use "A | B" for the OLED model and "A - B" for the LCD model.

"7 nm" and "6 nm" don't actually refer to the physical size of being 6/7 nm. Assuming it would, that'd still be ~14% smaller, which is kinda nice (it means it's more power efficient). You also wouldn'd be able to see it with a micrpscope, given that visible light has a wave length between 380 to 700 nanometers.

A bigger screen is a bigger screen. And with the actual device being the same size, I'd take it. That's a weird thing to nitpick on.

"Are you noticing 30 Hz?" doesn't make any sense. I assume you meant a difference of 30 Hz, which also makes little sense, because the base is important to quality the difference. As to still answer the question: absolutely! Going from 60 to 90 is a 50% increase in frame-rate / 33% reduction in frame-time. It also allows for a more flexible range of in-betweens.

The battery improvement of "like 10%" is a follow-up error. Going up from the actual 40 Wh to 50 Wh is an improvement of 25%, which makes 2h be 2.5h, 4h be 5h or 8h be 10h.

The Rog Ally being better is quite subjective. For once, it comes with Windows (11), which is a major minus, and it's less power efficient, especially at low usage. And it having a better screen than the Steam Deck rectified with the OLED model.

You are cirrect with the new model not being enough to get one if you already have an "old" LCD one. But that's kinda the point: it's not a new generation, just a refresh.

Comparing the screens in a video is kinda tricky. One hurdle is the camera, another one is the screen that we watch the video on. As an unrelated hint: you can also change the Switch's brightnes via the quick menu (holding the home button), so you don't need to dig into the system settings.

"and [the Steam Deck] doesn't have Windows" - That's kinda a positive, tbh. xBox Game Pass is still available through their cloud service if you're into subsription services.
"You don't have Blizzard store" - You do have the Blizzard store. You can simply install and use it.
"You dan't play Diablo" - First: Diablo 4 is on Steam. Second: The "thingamagic" you have to download is the Blizzard Launcher, just like on the Ally or any other device.
"It requires extra steps" - Well, it requires installing it. To do so, just add the store/launcher as a non-Steam "game" and that's it. You're not wrong that it does, but it's pretty minor.
Yes, the Ally comes with Win11, thanks for listing its weaknes.
"You can do anything you can do on a computer" - Same with the Deck/SteamOS, except it's not limited by Windows so that I can do stuff that I cannot do with Windows.
"Diablo, WoW, Epic Games, xBox Game Pass" - Just like on a Deck (apart from xBox, which works trough cloud streaming).
"With the Steam Deck, you can only use Steam and download Steam games" - Again, that's just incorrect.
"Steam Deck 2 running Windows" - That's not gonna happen. Too many downsides.

All in all, this video is just an aimless rant, based partly on misinformation. It's just a "nay-sayer", overwhelmingly negative and gives a wrong impression. It also kinda eels like a bad advertisement for the Rog Ally.

Do you know 6nm chip is more power efficient than 7nm one? By the way, this video seems to be done by a rog ally fan boy. Rog ally has a lot of issues too, but this video didn't claim them.

Nice opinion but I'd rather stick to a trustworthy brand that won't get yeeted into the bin after 2 years

What’s 10% of hour? It’s not 10 minutes 😂. Hour got 60 minutes. Your hardware understanding knowledge is minimal and you made poor judgement on everything. Do your homework next time and if possible get hardware before formulating opinions. Your editing and voice are both good to watch and listen.

lmao you said dont buy a steam deck but yet all you did was talk about how bad a Nintendo 720p Led screen was, this title and you dont make sense. You talked more about Nintendo then the steam deck lol change the title

You forgot to mention the Rog ally still kills microsd slots/cards. Steam deck is great all rounder that works straight out of the box. I have a steam deck and I am waiting for my legion go to arrive.

I would have bought a Rog ally as well if they actually fixed it.

The videos not recommending Steamdeck is just one guy taking about his backpack for 10min and this dude who somehow thinks 6nm node means that the steamdeck is 1nm smaller

It’s great your reading crap off of eta primes video rather then correctly researching the original deck battery was 40w not 45w

"Doesn't seem to be any other big difference" <- LOL again

What about the ~50% longer battery life?
About 200-300% faster download speeds if you have Wifi-6 at home?

Within the first 20 seconds he claimed valve to be panicking because of the release of new windows handheld devices and claimed the ROG ally to be the best one, it was at this moment i knew the next 9:40 minutes would be uneducated, bias crap.

Look mate, I dislike these handheld PC's as much as the next guy simply because they're terrible value, but you've got it wrong on the CPU node and OLED being used.

Unlike LCD, OLED can display better colors, and the 90hz refresh rate will be making things smoother. Nanometer's is now just a name. So 6nm is a bigger increase than you might think over 7nm. All these little improvements do make the OLED deck refresh better.

And if you're this nitpicky about specs and you yourself said you can play AAA games for about an hour, you might as well buy a gaming laptop since most can achieve around that run time on AAA games with steam deck settings. Similar price, far greater performance. Heck, in my place there's a vivobook 14x with a 12540H and rtx 2050 with a 90hz OLED for a lower price than the 500gb steam deck LCD model. The OLED one will likely cost more. It'll blow the deck out the water.

This has gotta be satire right? Couldn't even write down the right specs of the LCD Steam deck. A lot of the information in this video is outright wrong. The LCD Steam Deck has a 40Wh Battery for one but it doesn't stop there. This video is littered with outright wrong statements. Do your research if you wanna be taken seriously. Then again, given the pattern of this channel, I don't think he actually wants to be taken seriously as a reviewer. 10% of one hour is apparently 10 minutes. This guy clearly lives in his own universe.
