1200 Calorie Diet Plan | Too Low?

This is not an example of what I eat in a day. 1200 calorie diets are very popular as a metric. Weight loss plans can often become very standardized when it should not be the case. Let's look at what you can eat in a day to get to 1200 calories with the list of foods below and discuss just what are the benefits and drawbacks.

Suggested 1,200-calorie menu
Source:
Breakfast

2 slices of fresh mango
1 hardboiled egg
1/2 of a whole-wheat bagel or 1/2 cup of unsweetened oatmeal
Lunch

2 cups of salad with avocado, carrots, tomato, and leafy greens with flavored balsamic vinegar as the dressing
1/2 cup of black bean soup
1/4 cup of unsweetened Greek yogurt that you can add to the soup
1 corn tortilla
Dinner

1-2 cups of steamed broccoli or kale, seasoned with Asian mustard and rice vinegar
3 ounces of wild salmon
1/2 cup of miso soup
3/4 cup of brown rice
Snacks

Enjoy these throughout the day:

1/2 of a baked apple with 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and cinnamon
1/2 cup of blueberries or raspberries
1/4 ounce of walnuts
1ounce of low-fat cheese
2 cups of popcorn
Enjoy unlimited water, tea, and coffee, but be careful with how much caffeine you have. Limit artificially sweetened drinks to one per day, if at all. Liberally season your meals with calorie-free lemon or lime juice, and flavored vinegars.

A 1,200-calorie meal plan will help you lose weight and keep it off. “The key to making the weight loss permanent is to make sure 1,200 calories is not too low for any individual,” says Weinandy. “For health reasons, make sure no food groups are being cut out to reach the 1,200 calorie mark.”

This information is fooooking amazing . I was able to lose 90 pounds on a 1200 calorie diet. With that being said, it’s possible but it takes a lot of discipline and mental clarity on your goal. Although it worked for me it won’t work for everyone. Simple because not everyone has that WILLPOWER .

I ate 1200/day for a year and a half to lose 65 pounds. I went from 230 to 165. I got to my last 20 pounds and have stalled at 160 for 8 months! Im 5'2" and kept being told 1200 was ok for me, but I wish I had other information to go off of before deciding to do 1200 for so long, I totally slowed down my metabolism to basically a halt, where I couldn't lose on 1200 while working out 5 times a week. Now I eat 1800 and workout the same amount and Im still maintaining my weight but now my body is making a lot of changes in terms of physique more than I've ever seen before.

I do a 1200 calorie per day diet that I made for myself. I'm down 60+ pounds so far from 303lbs to 240lbs and still going. It consists of 10oz egg white omelette with 1/4 cup 4 cheese shredded sargento mexican blend cheese(250 calories total), 2 Claussen pickles for probiotics(0 calories), 1 Sargento low fat string cheese(45 calories), 1 Chobani nonfat plain greek yogurt with 1tsp of chia seeds(102 calories), 32 grams of organic natural peanut butter along with 2 Lindt 70% dark cacao chocolate squares(320 calories), good size salad of romaine, radicchio, broccoli slaw, shredded carrots, hydro cucumber, and healthy salad dressing(150 calories total), and 3/4lb of seasoned boneless skinless grilled chicken tenders(360 calories), 96oz of water minimum, and as much black coffee as I like. 1, 227 calories total, roughly 40 grams of fat, low carb, and 100+ grams of protein. You can mix in either a pink grapefruit or a serving of blueberries since both are under 100 calories of course. You can also switch out the 320 calories of the peanut butter/chocolate or the 360 calories of the chicken tenders for 3/4lb of fish, peeled white shrimp, or scallops to switch things up.

New to this channel and been weight training, playing rugby and watching my diet for 38 years (I’m 52). Yet the context and some new ideas here really inspired me. Subscribed halfway through. Great work

Get you, lost on 1200 when I could've lost on 1500. Was super fast and no binging (willpower, and also I was one of the #1200isplenty crew and didn't really care about macros or nutrients so I'd eat anything I craved as long as I didn't go over 1200) and although it was effective, I do think I could've managed it in a nicer way without the hunger and fatigue. Also, anybody who doesn't have a particularly large amount of willpower could easily binge like crazy every few days, and unless you're short and mostly inactive you don't really need to go that low.

It's much easier to control the food I consume on average, than it is to do extra exercise consistently. Eating unnecessary things is too easy. It takes me 90 minutes of moderate exercise to burn up the calories from a treat I can eat in two minutes. Think about the calories of what you are eating, and how much time at the gym it takes to use up that excess energy. It gives you a new perspective on food decisions. My food decisions aren't always rational or perfect, but they are better than they used to be, just knowing that one thing.

I have been on a 1000 cal/day diet for the past 9months. I have lost 110lbs, I'm so happy to listen to your videos Paul, cause it is now preparing me for what lies ahead and not being another person on a diet that will gain all that weight back. I now know what to expect. I hope to slowly increase my metabolism, along with weight training to have the best possible outcome. I was morbidly obese, and now have never felt better.
