I am 160cm and my start weight was 62kg. I have been eating 1200cals for 6 months and so long I have lost 7 kg, so I am down to 55kg. I have tried so many diets but this is the only thing that worked for me. You are not restricted from any food groups, you can eat anything as long as it fits in your calorie goals. And as long as you eat the correct foods you won't feel hungry.
Even when I had vacations and I allowed myself to eat more, I kept the weight off and it wasn't hard to go into the diet again afterwards.
The moment I reach my goal weight that is 51kg, I will start reverse dieting and increase my food to 1600cal which is my maintainance. Best decision ever.

I had a full body scan and it showed I burned 1174 calories a day doing nothing. I am 47 and 5'2". So a 1200 calorie diet plus walking is how I lost weight. I am becoming more active and incorporating strength training but 1200 calories was perfect for me.

I’ve been doing 1200 cal for almost 3 months. I’ve lost about 11 or 12 pounds. I am not hungry, and if you prepare and plan, you can find healthy swaps for most everything you crave. You can actually have quite a bit of food and protein if you do a lot of non-processed foods.

I aim for 1200 but on the days I exercise I go up to 1600-1700. I usually exercise 3-4x a week with weight training.

I’m on a 1200cal a day diet and have a surplus of energy. I cycle 6 days a week at 45min each session. The 1200cal a day diet is supposed to be done to only reach your weight loss goal and then you increase cals to maintain your weight. So therefore, the mindset is the 1200cal a day diet is not for life, but only a moment. Plus on the diet you have to make sure you get carbs and foods that give you energy. I also do intermediate fasting for 16yr a too. It’s possible if you want to do it.

The thing is slow and steady is so hard when you don't see results. What's the point of being hungry, tired and miserable if I barely lose any weight? It's so demotivating, I don't know how to change my mindset. I always want to push things to extreme. Like, yeah, I'll be even more hungry and miserable than now, but at least I'll see results.

My BMI is currently 32+ (which is quite obsessed) and I'm panicking that if I don't lose weight as quickly as possible there will be serious health issues. I hope to be on a 1200-calorie diet for maybe a month to see if I can lose at least 5-10lbs and feel slightly healthier. But I think you are right about the unsustainability of a 1200-calorie diet because this is my fifth day and I am already starting to feel dizzy sometimes and I find it hard to fall asleep at night. I don't know if it's related. But I'll keep doing it until I lose about 5-10 lbs.

my limits are cutting foods I grew up eating in Brazil. I tried keto several times, and most of the time, I would mess up near the evening. or do partial keto, low carb. my record was in 2013: 7 days on keto, and I lost 7lb. then I had to eat normal food. I need a mild balanced diet that counts calories and not fat and protein. something I can do for the rest of my life. food portion is easier when diet does punish you. to my culture, it's a severe punishment to eat fats only. I went to Italy to study, and in 10 days, I lost so many pounds eating carbs only and barely any protein. Here in the United States, it is so hard to lose weight.

I just try to eat over 100g of protein in a 1200 calories a weekday and I feel free to eat more during the weekends. I try my best to not go overboard, but I will have a meal and some snacks that I am not having during the week. So, let’s say I eat 2k calories twice a week, that will give me an average of 1500 calories per day. I think that is a lot more sustainable to me. :)

I'm 5'3" and 69 years old. When I use a calorie deficient calculator is puts me in the 1200 calorie range. I track everything and eat at least 30% protein, 45% carbs & 25% fat daily. I do at least 30 minutes of low impact dance aerobics or 30 minutes walking 5-6 days a week. I currently weigh 145 & would like to lose 8 more pounds. I am losing approx. 1/2 pounds a week at 1200 calories per day. The last thing I want to do is slow down my metabolism at my age. I feel that I am on the right track... any advice?

There is no one size fits all. When I was young in the skinny seventies, it was 1000 calories that was the magic number

I'm just wondering on this topic, although I fully agree with the science that was explained behind it all. I'm not near an average height, I'm 151cm (around 5ft) and if I look at trustworthy calculators for an idea on my calories... well they are around 1200 to 1400, which I suspect is due to my height, as I have compared the results with some of my friends calories (I did this because mine sounds so low). And this isn't a huge difference from what I eat naturally. So how does one then know how much is too low and unhealthy, or how much one can even safely cut for a slight deficit?

What about our hormones. Weight loss does have to do with a calorie deficit true but insulin resistants is why we gain weight . Our hormones drive weight loss and weight gain. Calories play a very small part.

My TDEE at 30% protein is 1650, so 1200 is no big deal. It's a bit of a challenge either way since there is not much room for "fun" foods even at maintenance. When I do drop to around 1200, I aim for 40-50% protein for satiety and prevention of muscle loss.
