Don't stop, if you stop it's harder to start running again, don't focus on the pain in your legs, look at your time every mile because if you look at your time every five seconds then you get demotivated cause it feels so slow. If you're close to the end of your time look every 1/2 or 1/4 miles, look straight, keep good form by swinging your arms but not also up by your chest. I also breathe 3 out my nose and 1 through my mouth after the first mile every time I'm taking breaths until I literally cannot, then I breathe through my mouth. Slowly build yourself up. I recently joined XC one month ago and my 3.1 mile (5k) is around 20.26.18

Cross country starts up tomorrow and I didn’t run at all after last season ended so I need to at least try to look like I did lol

4:30 miler/16:09 5k here (not great but thought id give ethos). Everyone breathes differently, and in my experience you shouldn't try to force a different method or form as long as you’re keeping it controlled. personally i like to do mouth and nose in twice and out through the mouth every 2 steps.

I was trained to do 3 small inxales 3 small exhales, in the way that one inxale/exhale = 1 step, and for me this technique is great

I can’t slow down because when I’m below a certain speed it’s more difficult to run and it’s like weird

I’ve noticed that outside I have really no issues breathing
But when I’m inside on a treadmill I struggle with it
My outside run speed is way faster than my inside

Mone isnt about my legs getting tired, its just my breathing gets out of control and i get really tired .

What do you think of exclusively nasal breathing? It’s supposed to be like resistance training because you get less oxygen, yet it’s sustainable on long runs

See this works fine everywhere but find out for me personally hot desert, and/or dry areas are not friendly for mouth breathing while running or exerting.

I played semi-pro basketball for 6 years and we were thought to do 3 small breaths in and 3 small breaths out when doing cardio, and that technique works for me pretty well, i can run very long assuming i dont run often. I remember it was not easy in the begining. Thoughts on this?

Dude the elevations on the trail we run on kicks my butt every time. My breathing gets so out of control and today my calves felt so tight on the 2nd mile. 😭
