Honestly running and conditioning yourself is one of the best feelings not only physically but probably more mentally because you prove to yourself you can do it. I damn near cried when I went from running a few blocks stop and repeat to running a whole 2 miles without stopping now that might not be a lot compared to most but damn it feels good.

I learned the double inhale, one exhale from Andrew Huberman. The second inhales basically allows the lung sacs to be complete inflated and release the CO2. It's also a great way to deal with a side stitch!

I’m new to running, last week I did 1.5km and was gassed out because I didn’t know how to breathe properly and I had to stop. This week I did 9.5km none stop, breathing through nose and out through mouth and the run felt incredibly comfortable, also slowed my pace down and felt like I could have ran 15km

The best and most relaxing way is hold your breath until you're finished running

A great tip that would’ve made me a better boxer back when I trained is TO NOT run flat footed. That will make you tired more than anything and it’s horrible. I used to do it all the time. If you can remember to remind yourself whilst running to be as light as possible on your feet, the run will feel so much better. It will feel super uncomfortable at first but give it a few tries.

When I used to run a lot, I'd breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth like you said. The easiest way for me to pace my breathing was by my footfalls. 4 steps per inhale, 4 per exhale. Helped me zone out and forget I was running.

I swear I be running perfectly fine for minutes then once I think about breathing I suddenly forget how I breathed 3 seconds ago

Double inhale through nose and exhale through mouth…I learned that at 14yo, the hard way😂 good examples for runners

Ran in college, focus on breathing through your mouth and breath down to your stomach not through your chest so you stay relaxed at any pace

I jog with water in my mouth to force me the nasal breath. It’s very effective.

I’m a mouth breather during runs regardless of effort or distance

this might sound dumb but when i used to run my coach told me to exhale on my left step to help with gut pain, it actually helped and kept my mind off the running because i was more focused on keeping my breathing steady and only to exhale on my left step.

I've found that taking a short breath in through your nose and then a long exhale through your mouth is a good way to ease side stitches!

I always thought that I had a crappy stamina, even struggling to finish 400 meters without stopping. Then one time I went running with my brother and I asked him how he went so long without stopping. He told me about nasal breathing and once I did that while running I noticed that the first 7 minutes it felt like I wasn't getting enough oxygen and my body telling me to breathe through my mouth. I ignored those signals and after those 7 minutes it suddenly felt like I could go on forever without getting tired. Ended up going 2km without stopping once and needing to stop my legs were burning so badly.

I found that for easy runs breathing in and out through your nose is a really good built in throttle control. It makes you run slow enough to breath and not overdo an easy run

As a former competitive swimmer and runner, I use the same breathing technique for both. Which is in and out through my mouth with a timed rhythm. However, I do practice inhaling through my nose at certain intervals during my runs. At the end of the day you should breathe in a way that allows you to breathe deeply while being relaxed. Distance running is all about relaxed efficiency.

The best way to breathe while running is to breathe in with one stride and breathe out with the next to maintain your rhythm. When you start to go lactic in a race or workout, you can then cut your breathing rate to one breath per step to more efficiently exchange oxygen. My source? The NCAA. Everyone in D1 (I am a division 1 runner) that sees success breathes like this because it's essential to having a rhythm.

Back in the day when I ran a lot, these types of breaths were second nature. Became breathing exercises, so relaxing. Gotta get back out there!
