Euro NCAP Crash Test of Toyota RAV4 2019

Euro NCAP performs a series of crash tests on each model tested:
- a frontal impact test, the car impacts a rigid barrier
- an offset frontal impact test, 40% of the width of the car is striking a deformable barrier
- a pole test, the tested car is propelled sideways into a rigid pole
- a side impact test, a mobile deformable barrier impacts the driver's door.
A series of pedestrian tests are conducted with different impactors, adult and child head form, lower and upper leg form and whiplash tests are performed on a sled.
Active safety is tested based on the car’s equipment: autonomous emergency braking systems (car to car, with a pedestrian and a cyclist target), lane support and speed assist technologies and seatbelt reminders.

i have never understood the reason for the side pole crash test. can someone give me a real world example of how everything goes does and how u hit into a pole from the side

System avoids front. You will get hit from behind braking like that. Then its better to crash with front so airbag can take care of you

There needs to be more differentiation as I’ve seen some 5 star vehicles performing considerably better than other 5 star vehicles. One key thing they should be measuring, recording, and comparing is vehicle movement from the crash tests. Some cars move very little like the Audi e-tron, while other cars like this RAV4 move a lot. In the frontal offset crash test you can really see this. Post crash car movement that is severe could put you into another lane of oncoming traffic or into a stationary road structure or off of a bridge. There are numerous other possibilities, all of which are all bad scenarios.
