I’ve done a lot of videos on cortisol, especially as it relates to the adrenal body type or adrenal glands. But I haven’t done a video on the foods that lower cortisol. That’s what we’re going to talk about today.

Of course, there are a lot of benefits to reducing cortisol, but we’re not going to get into that today. Instead, I want to cover the foods that can help you lower cortisol naturally.

Cortisol adapts the body to a stress state. It's important to note that the body doesn’t know the difference between mental stress and physical stress.

A high level of sugar in your blood affects cortisol and adrenaline. In other words, consuming sugar, refined carbs, and starches keeps you in stress mode.

On the flip side, the Healthy Keto® diet and intermittent fasting help lower cortisol and promote a sense of calm.

The best foods to lower cortisol and stress:
1. Egg yolks
2. Organ meats
3. Nutritional yeast or sunflower seeds
4. Dark leafy green vegetables
5. Salmon and other fatty fish
6. Probiotics and fermented foods (sauerkraut, kefir, pickles, kimchi)

I eat an omelette with fatty fish, tomatoes and kale every morning and I have never felt better. No cravings or hunger until lunch at 2PM (usually a salad with meat). Then I eat a light dinner around 7pm and a glass of kefir with berries before bed. I am 55 and feel better than I ever did in my 20's and 30's.

You articulate quite technical things in a very simple way. Impressive as always.

At this point, eating 2 meals a day just feels like a huge holiday feast. I feel so good and build alot of muscle with 1 meal a day! Also, I don't feel like a "Twilight Zone Zombie" or throw carb induced tantrums! ❤ Healthy Keto! Thank You kindly, Dr. Berg!

All I did was adding 3 or 4 eggs into my daily diet. These are layed by my free range hens running around in the garden. Makes me feel full and kept the weight loss off and stable for a year now. I lost 10kg from 68 to 58kg

Another important thing, which will also help reduce cortisol, promote growth hormone and help the body in healing, that is good loving understanding family atmosphere or friends.

Having valuable deep conversations and spending quality time with one's loving family members and friends also does wonders in decreasing cortisol .

I had a coach telling me "stop fasting and eat your damn carbs!" because my blood work and 24 hour urine came back flagged "high". Sp I followed her advice and ended up gaining weight! And still not sleeping and having all kinds of menopause symptoms! And haven't had a day in months without pain!

So, 3 days ago I decided that wasn't working and I'm now doing low carb/keto and IF.

So glad I came across this! 🙏💗

Dr. Berg, your nutritional yeast is absolutely delicious not only in salads, but sprinkled on top of my fried or scrambled eggs and sometimes I love mixing it in with my sauerkraut too. I make my salad dressing from raw cream and raw milk kefir with Sea salt, garlic, and dill spice and when the nutritional yeast hits my salad in this dressing… Well…Just a delicious product… Thank you so much.

I’m allergic to egg white so when I go to the Whole Foods salad bar I’m so happy to see a bunch of removed yolks from halved boiled eggs leftover in the bin bc so many people are only eating the white part for some reason. It’s such a convenient win win bc I’m not wasting the white and it’s already cooked for me and cut in half so I can choose the dark orange colored yolks over the pale yellow ones. I’m doubtful they’re pasture raised but at least I’m not contributing to food waste by throwing out the whites.

I went back to fasting after a very adveturous era at work. And now im 3 months into fasting by doing 24 to 48 hrs alternatively. I also do ketogenic diet so It feels even more amazing and more energy because i no longer consume fructose and refined sugar or ultra processed food

I am no longer a slave to cravings and i always look forward to my next meal. Its no longer something that i need to consume thrice a day but something that i work with 😊

Great information as always: thank you so much, Dr. Berg! Strengthening the parasympathic system and its ruler, the vagus nerve, can also be achieved through breathing techniques, singing, meditation, mindfulness, using weight blankets and even hugging (oxytocin as a counteracting hormone to cortisol). It would be so cool if you could make a video about that. ♡ Best wishes to you!

Thank you so much for the list. Ever since I have taken care of my adrenal gland, I feel much better. Going to doctors visits were useless. I got all the knowledge from watching your videos.
