### Foods that Decrease Cortisol:

1. **Magnesium-rich Foods**: Magnesium helps with relaxation and reducing inflammation. Foods rich in magnesium include pumpkin seeds, almonds, pistachios, broccoli, bananas, avocado, artichokes, and spinach. Dark chocolate is also recommended as it is rich in magnesium and flavonoids.

2. **Foods High in B Vitamins**: B vitamins, especially B12, help break down and eliminate cortisol. Foods rich in B vitamins include organ meat, chicken, eggs, nutritional yeast, and fortified cereals.

3. **Foods that Promote a Healthy Gut Microbiome**: A healthy gut is crucial for mental health. The video recommends high-fiber foods like fruits and vegetables as prebiotics and foods like live yogurt, kimchi, kombucha, kefir, and sauerkraut as probiotics.

4. **Foods High in Omega-3 Fatty Acids**: Omega-3s help counteract the effects of cortisol by reducing inflammation. Foods rich in Omega-3s include walnuts, avocados, salmon, chia seeds, flax seeds, olive oil, tuna, mackerel, herring, and anchovies.

5. **Foods that Help Regulate Blood Sugar**: Managing blood sugar levels can prevent cortisol spikes. Protein-rich foods like beans and legumes are recommended, including chickpeas, lentils, black beans, and kidney beans.

### Additional Tips:

- **Hydration**: Staying well-hydrated can help maintain cortisol levels.

### Foods to Avoid:

- **Alcohol**: Excessive alcohol intake can increase cortisol levels.
- **Caffeine**: Found in coffee, tea, and some soft drinks, too much caffeine can raise cortisol levels.
- **Simple Sugars and Carbs**: Foods like sodas, candy, white bread, and pasta can cause rapid fluctuations in blood sugar and cortisol levels.

The video concludes by stating that diet is just one part of a comprehensive approach to stress management, which should also include a healthy work-life balance, adequate sleep, regular exercise, and other stress-reducing techniques like meditation or deep breathing exercises.

This is excellent. My daughter has a terrible time with high cortisol. It affects her sleep. She already follows some of this diet.

No alcohol, not smoker, almost all these foods. Regular exercise.
Still super anxious everyday, still overthinking stuff, still easily irritated and angry most of the time. I even take supplements. I do yoga occasionally and watch asmr/meditation videos. My life is in order yet nothing helps....

Thank you. I am a Type 1 Insulin Dependent Diabetic. When I asked the Endo. Dr. why is my Glucose so HIGH in the a.m. when I wake up. His answer was without explanation "It's called the Dawn Phenomenon. Ha! he did NOT say a word about Cortisol. I don't think he knows how Cortisol raises Glucose. I learned to calm myself with deep breathing. Now I am looking at the best foods to eat to combat High Cortisol

I start my day with, among other things, blueberries (a few ounces) and walnuts (~2 oz). Midday I have 2 to 3 oz pistachio kernels. With dinner, which is where I vary my protein and vegetables, I eat at least half of an avocado, daily. Further, I take an great multivitamin, supplemental calcium, magnesium citrate and extra Vitamins C, D, and E. I seriously abused my body in my young adult decades... mainly because of lack of knowledge and understanding of what works and what doesn't.

Whenever I feel over-stressed, I get a cup of coffee. Almost immediately my feelings of stress subside. Why is this if caffeine increases cortisol?
