In other news, China never lies.

I'll see myself out

"PLARF" does sound like the noise an ICBM filled with water would make on impact.

Apparently saying something is "full of water" is a Chinese way of saying something has been scammed or corrupt/graft. It doesn't literally mean that they're full of water just that the system is corrupt and lots of bribery etc.

China has a huge military but when Australia shows interest in expanding our own military china is the first one to start complaining

The PRC pledges 'no first use of nuclear weapons' the PRC also pledged that Hong Kong would be 'one country, two systems'.

Trusting the CCP to keep it's word on _any_ issue / treaty is the act of a fool.

When it comes to China and particularly its military, then it's always a good bet that it's "just numbers and show".

Literally putting emphasis on the phrase "Made in China" which is not a good label to be placed in a product.

China's options on a world scale are limited. Taiwan does not offer much relief for China's problems. To save China, Russia better be concerned!

...a number of these "disappearances" are likely related to people being viewed as a political threat to the leader for life.

i mean, after russia's buffoon dance on the world stage, i'd imagine china would want to take their time to ensure possibility rather than rushing it

The Chinese aren't stupid- they know what will happen if they do and will quickly regret it.

It's a misnomer to say they are the world's largest Army. It only looks that way because everything is under one umbrella. When the USAAF, split into the USAF, it made the Army smaller. When the USSF split from the USAF, it made the USAF smaller, but the numbers didn't change. It's like when they say the PLAN is the biggest Navy in the world when they count the tug boats as combat vessels. If you think about it like that it would actually make the US Army the second largest Navy since they have more cargo and transport ships than the Navy has combat ships. So, you have to put it into context.

The purges are the result--CAN be the result--of only two things. China wanted to invade Taiwan and can't because military corruption has crippled their ability or China wants to invade Taiwan and all these senior military officers are warning that China's military is not ready for such a conflict.

It's not even so much that Taiwan is make or break for the CCP. Taking Taiwan is important mostly for the larger geo-political implications that it would have: namely the end of US supremacy in the region and the establishment of powerful Chinese hegemony. So, the question is simple: is China gearing up for a fight but it's generals don't believe they can win? Or did China want a fight but it's generals left her in a position that she knows she can't win.

Is the purge meant to unify? Or punish?
