We had a very Pro China president under Duterte, and all China had to do was honor their pledges of investments, let our fisherfolk fish our waters and let us access the natural gas deposits we have on our continental shelf. But instead, they gave us nothing, and even Duterte had to slowly shift back to the US towards the second half of his term. Marcos even went to China for his first state visit, but the Chinese government made zero concessions. The Philippines had no choice but to shift back to the US. We tried being friendly with China but clearly that didn't work.
