Hydrangeas are one of the most popular, beautiful, summer-blooming shrubs! There are also a lot of questions surrounding how to identify and properly prune them. Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn more about how to prune Panicle Hydrangeas and why it’s best to prune them in early spring. In addition to pruning Panicle varieties such as Bobo, Little Lime, Limelight, Firelight, QuickFire, and Vanilla Strawberry, this is also the time of year to prune Smooth Hydrangea varieties such as Anabelle, Invincibelle Spirit, Incrediball, and Mini Mauvette. These types of Hydrangeas bloom on new wood, so it’s important to remove all of the old so that they have room to grow and push new, beautiful blooms all season long!

We have at least 20 hydrangeas to prune so this is perfect. Hoping they’ll be spectacular in our garden tours. Thank you.

I am in Zone 8A, and planted Bobo hydrangeas in the spring. When should I prune them, and how far back do I prune? I was also given some Anabell hydrangeas, but need to know about pruning them also. Thanks
