Spring is here and it’s time to get out in the garden and freshen things up as they begin to grow. The great thing about Clematis is they will tell you where they want to be pruned. Watch this video with Noelle, Horticulturist and Education Director with Petitti Garden Centers, to learn how to properly prune Clematis to help promote new growth. Keep in mind, there are a few different varieties of Clematis that have different pruning requirements. Early bloomers need the least amount of pruning while mid to late summer bloomers can withstand a harsher cutback.

Mine is old, has a very large 6' trellis, and grows against the brick wall of my garage. I cut it down every fall, and it still manages to grow practically out of control every summer. Last year, I somehow forgot to cut it down, and didn't do it until March of this year. Not a problem. It's growing like it's bamboo!!

I cut mine down in the fall, and it grows up in the spring to be huge with multiple blooms
