These tutorials have helped me no end with my Donuts vs Anvils unity game.

I remember last year starting this series and actually having trouble following along. I kept having to rewind the video and then watch it again, rewind it and then watch it again in order to understand what was going on. Today I started watching the entire series again just to kind of gauge my personal development as far as my own skill set and knowledge set in regards to blender. I noticed a funny thing or maybe I should say an interesting thing. In almost every part of the video other than texturing, I knew exactly what was going to happen next and how to do it. 95% of the video was common knowledge to me. But 8 months ago, I felt like a steamboat engineer working on a warp engine.

I just thought that was interesting and thought I would share that tidbit of information. By the way, I'm still not that good at modeling. But perhaps I have moved up to an internal combustion engine engineer.

I think it's fair to say that half the skill in modelling is understanding the software enough to utilise its features, and the other half is maintaining the knowledge of when and how to use each of them.

NOTE:
1) In Blender 3.0 Toggle X-Ray replaces Limit selection to visible and is now a global effect rather than being selection-specific to Edit Mode.
That's why Andrew selects the face/vertices he needs to extrude in one shot (his hint at 11:23) but you cannot in solid view

2) to squash the base of the anvil using scale, you need to use the mouse wheel

honestly, despite recently following a bunch of tutorials about blender and modelling, proportional editing is something new to me and I'm blown away by just how much I've learned from you in a single video. Great work mate, clear, consice and easy to follow. Thanks a ton for your efforts!

Been using Blender for ~11 years now and I still plan to watch all your tutorials! Really want to make some of my own now too.
Keep up all the great work on BGuru and Poliigon!

Andrew, I have been messing with Blender as a hobby for about 10 months now and most things I have needed so far I have figured out on my own. However, my biggest weak point is modeling. I can tinker with the mesh and usually get close to where I need it to be on rather simple objects. But my workflow and thought process has always been sloppy and a time waster. This video showed me a lot and I am starting to understand modeling in a total different way that makes so much more sense.

Moving on to episode 2... Thanks for these videos.

These videos have helped me greatly! 2 weeks ago i was so lost with Blender. I knew Fusion360, solid space stuff, and a touch of z-brush before really sitting down and learning Blender. The donut tutorial and the Anvil tutorial basically teach you the main things you need to know to get started. Andrew is also easy to listen to and follow along with. Only thing id love to happen is a new Anvil tutorial with blender 3.0 as some features are different now. But i owe a lot to Andrew, donuts and anvils! lol! Thanks a ton for putting these videos out for free!!

I've been working in Blender for years and NEVER knew all of the little hiding and loop cut locking tricks. So helpful!

hey man, first i want to say thank you for making these tutorials. i havent been this excited to create in a long time. i know its a tall order, but id ask that you consider remaking these like you did the original donut series. im finding it hard to follow along because the UI is so different now, and many of the features have been merged/changed. Im going to finish regardless, but it would definitely be valuable for people down the road to have a fresh take. thanks again! :)

0:59 I've seen this video several times and just now noticed the Blender Guru logo on the anvil. Nice touch.

Yes! Right after I finished the donut tutorial about two weeks ago and dabbled since then, you've begun yet another tutorial series.

You are a god amongst men.

Did the donut and the chair. Thought I was ready for a character. Chose between that or a motorcycle. Failed miserably and here I am. So true what you said in the intro, and thanks for providing these awesome tutorials so beginners like me have a way to progress when we inevitably fail at too advanced stuff ;)
