1 Corinthians 3:15 “if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer loss; the builder will be saved, but only as through fire.”

We also don't believe in the "fires of purgatory" or "purgatory bring a third place outside of heaven ir hell". Nor do we believe in the development of doctrine theory.

The Orthodox view of the soul post-mortuem can be summarized as a particular judgement, where the souls gets a foretaste of the the General or Final judgment- bliss and pain are experienced, but it's from the pov of love and repentance, not just suffering (purgatory is literally called the Church Suffering - satisfaction model of atonement being key here). Some claim the Toll Houses are part of the repentance process, but it's an open answer, and doesn't include fires, especially literal ones like many RCC theologians claim (yes, I know the official doctrine has few details, but whatever)

Nope, purgatory contradicts the whole gospel.

We don't believe that, the closest is the tolls but a purifying fire after doctrine is condemned by the Orthodox church in multiple counsels

For our Protestants friends who want to know why these Catholics believe in such a thing. What is found in the Jewish Talmud: When a man dies his soul leaves his body, but for the first 12 months it retains a temporary relationship to it, coming and going until the body has disintegrated. Thus, the prophet Samuel was able to be raised from the dead within the first year of his demise. This year remains a purgatorial period for the soul, or according to another view only for the wicked soul, after which the righteous go to paradise, Gan Eden, and the wicked to hell, Geihinnom (Gehinnom; Shab. 152b–153a; Tanh. Va-Yikra 8). You miss all this information as it's written more as important in II Mecca which some Protestants do not have in their books.

To clarify, purgatory is not like a middle place/state between heaven and hell. It is more like a subsection of Heaven. If a soul is in purgatory, it has been saved. However it's not pure enough to be in sainthood, it needs to be purify.
It is the same as if you have a huge fight with your best friend. Because you love each other, you'll end up forgiving and reconciling, but the fight has left a mark. It is a wound that has to heal. The same with the Father, if you have faith, but your soul is filled with sins you need to purify (by the prayers of the alive). You'll be saved, but your relationship with God needs healing.
(Assuming you don't believe faith alone)

@Voice of reason I partially agree with you. I think Fr. Seraphim Rose calls it the “Toll houses, ” after we die immediately.

The reason we pray for the dead is because God hears our prayers from the beginning of time. I can pray for someone who died 20 years ago and my prayer is heard by God at the moment of their death and judgement. There may be a time of transition from the earth to heaven but it's not purgatory. I believe God gives everyone a moment to repent while they are on the edge between life and death. That's why our prayers for the dead matter.

so can we conclude that the orthodox and catholics believe in the same thing for this matter, but it’s just formulated differently? Please help me out orthodox and catholic brothers

Eh let's be fair the Orthodox also reject purgatory as DEFINED by the Catholic church, not only the word itself. So we can say they believe in sanctification process but that process is viewed very differently between the two churches.

I am a baptist but Didn’t Mar Mari explain that orthodoxy does not believe in purgatory but instead that it is a catholic thing?! He also stated that in the Bible it does not discuss purgatory.

If this is the deal, doesn't protestants (those who hold to docrine that dead go to place after death instead of soul sleep and waiting for judgement) actually believe this too? I mean the only diffrence is that catholic teaching, as I know it (may be wrong but thats what I heard the most) is that soul is purified in some indetermined time and protestants rather say that at the moment of death even if you are not fully sanctified during life, that you will be fully sancitified when dead and go straight to heaven

Believing in purgatory mocks the blood of Jesus Christ saying his blood is not good enough to cleanse the soul and wash the person clean what a joke

Pls do a video about the book of barnabous (apparently this is the gospel of Jesus) every time I debate a Muslim they bring this up and I don’t know what to say about it. Simply because apparently it’s been carbon dated as a TRUE text. I don’t know where it belongs on the timeline… much appreciated
