The Orthodox Church Explained in 2 Minutes

Othrodox churches, or Eastern Orthodox as they are often called, have a lot of theology to cover in 2 minutes, but here's a quick and oversimplified rundown.

I converted to Orthodoxy last February and was baptized this March. Funnily enough, I found orthodoxy through a video game, Civilization 6. I converted from Southern Baptist though I didn't go to church in the months leading up to my conversion. I found the services to be boring and bland, so I stopped going. I didn't feel like my Baptist church actually got me closer to God, it was just a place for people to go on Sunday mornings for food and to hang out. Orthodoxy showed me what worship is, what it would be. I feel like I'm actually worshipping the Holy Trinity and I've seen improvements to my life and to my behaviors ever since.

I’m orthodox and just shocked at how accurate this video is, nothing is wrong. I’m shocked a video could be made like this by somebody who is not orthodox. I was a Pentecostal convert and thought that’s what Christianity was. After learning it was only a 100 year old denomination started in America. I did a huge study on Christian history and denominations that eventually lead me to orthodoxy.

Considering that before the Great Schism the Christian Church consisted of five autonomous, equal and fraternal Churches: the Church of Alexandria, Jerusalem, Antioch, Constantinople and Rome, and after the Great Schism only four remained, without the Church of Rome which departed for the vain glory of this world, all four of which are now Orthodox Churches, we may say that the Catholics departed from among the Orthodox. Before the Great Schism, the Orthodox simply called themselves: Christians. Because the Catholics usurped the name Catholic, meaning universal, the remaining Christians had to differentiate themselves from the departed.

I used to be atheist until I saw a vision of the most Holy Theotokos (Mother of God). She was standing in a lotus flower and opened her arms to me. She was wearing a crown and a bright light shone behind her. Then I saw many flowers attached to one another. I began reading the Bible and converted to Christianity. Started off as a protestant/non-denominational but then I found orthodoxy. I will be baptised soon. I have been christian for about a year now. Orthodoxy is the way.
