Intermittent fasting diets 'no better' than standard diets for losing weight, doctor says

Diets that include intermittent fasting are growing in popularity. The three popular types of intermittent fasting are "whole day," which means no food at all one or two days a week; "alternate day," which means small meals on specific days of the week and no restrictions on others; and "time-restricted feeding," which means eating only during a 4- to 8-hour window each day. Dr. David Agus joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss what scientists say about the trend.

Delivered by Norah O’Donnell, Gayle King, John Dickerson, and Bianna Golodryga, "CBS This Morning" offers a thoughtful, substantive and insightful source of news and information to a daily audience of 3 million viewers. The Emmy Award-winning broadcast presents a mix of daily news, coverage of developing stories of national and global significance, and interviews with leading figures in politics, business and entertainment. Big Corporations that sell sugar products and diabetes drugs must be freaking out.

One doctor’s opinion vs millions of people’s actual experience. Beat that.

Keto with intermittent fasting works great! Some doctors already started losing cured customers and don’t like it..

I lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks. I eat between 10am to 6pm, then no food for the rest of the day (16hrs). I eat a healthy diet with limited carbs and lots of protein. This works!

I ate at 11am and 3pm, fasting for 20 hours in between, and lost 72 pounds from September to May, without exercise.

Think about the hunter gatherer societies that were prevalent for thousands of years, then you'll understand why the human body is designed for intermittent fasting. When there was no food available, they tapped into fat stores for a couple of days, even months, but we have taught our bodies to EXPECT food every couple of hours, so maybe that's why insulin stays high. And it may seem counterintuitive, fatter people are "hungrier" all the time, because they usually eat more. (I'm fat too, I need to lose weight). And I believe that insulin resistance makes you hungrier too, because for example it means you don't have access to fat stores, the body can't see that fat that is just sitting there so you need to put fuel in, or else you get hangry. That's why humans didn't get wiped out right away, we passed the genes because we had the ability to store copious amounts of it, it kept us alive. I may have got some things wrong in this article, but that's my opinion. Not writing anymore or else this will be way too long. One more thing, sugar doesn't really fill you up because if there was no meat available, you could eat tons of fruit and store the rest as fat, then go couple months without eating.

This doctor is just promoting the same thing that people have heard for years while everyone is getting fatter.
No mention of insulin management, or how bad calorie restriction can mess up your metabolism long term if done incorrectly making the problem worse.
How often you eat and what you eat (lower your carbs especially the refined ones.) is far more important than calories. Calories in and Calories out is an over-simplified look at a complicated metabolism. Sure calories matter but they really should be third on your list of priorities at best.

I don’t care what this guy says. My glucose meter says my sugar levels are completely normal. No meds. All I have to do is eat In a 6-8 hour window. Fast 14-16 hours a day.

people are trying things that aren't making money for someone who is paying our bills. I know, let's find a "Doctor" or a "Scientist" who says you should do what we want you to do.

I lost about 40lbs when I 1st started imf w/ exercise(in 3-5months)... & then I adjusted it so I still do imf but hover around my current body weight... Started imf on new years 2017, & still doing it(yes short time so far, 2yrs 1month)... Only time I will/have broken it is during vacation, because food is good & you never know when you'll come across something you may not be able to experience once you leave that place(vacation spot)... But every person & body is different won't work the same for each individual...

Sure it's no better but it's much more doable for average fat people. No planning, cooking, calories counting, no opportunity for cheating, you just don't eat in given hours.

Do you need to reverse most of your insulin resistance and lose weight before the benefit of Intermittent Fasting makes your set point lower? I've actually tried IF and low carb for like 3 1/2 months when I was almost obese and I didn't lose a single pound.

My joint inflammation is definitely improved. After trying all the homeopathic remedies, injections, over the counter products and Asian medicines, Fasting Works. As a diet? I'd expect improvement by not carrying extra weight while still maintaining an exercise program. I'm a certified group fitness trainer btw
