Thanks for the great recipes. I make “fast food” by doubling or tripling a recipe and freezing the extra servings. Then when we’re running late or too tired, we reheat in the microwave. When we make BBQ brisket, we cut up the cooked brisket into meal-sized portions and have it about once a month. It lasts a loooong time. We call it “cook once, eat many”.

The cake looks delicious. How did you learn to be a great cook and homemaker. You are the kind of woman I wish my sons would have married. I would have loved to have had a daughter or daughter in law like you. 🧐

For tough cuts of meat, use old coffee.like, make a pot, plain, such as hills bros.maxwell house, or folgers.use the leftover coffee, black, to soak tough meat in.anywhere from 2 hours to overnight.it tenderizes the meat, and without added sodium.

Q&A: What types of frugal food gifts can you give friends over the holidays? Teachers, neighbors, etc. Do you use a Keurig?

Love the idea of a use it up shelf! I would throw the strawberries into a smoothie and slice the apples and have with peanut butter - my go-to movie snack.

Living in New England we always planned for hurricanes and snow and ice storms. In what we jokingly called CENTRAL SUPPLY, we kept our winter preparedness stash.
We kept canned soups that don't require adding water. OK in a pinch.
Powdered milk, batteries, candles, LUCI solar light lanterns, hand cranked can openers,
Extra propane tanks for a gas grill ( power outages are not unusual )
Tuna, canned chicken meat, canned deviled ham, crackers, instant coffee for desperate times.

Throughout the year, I make my own salsa with ingredients from the garden.
The 15 or 21 bean soup mix packages only require water to make a hearty thick soup for cold winter nights and its super cheap. AND, surprisingly delicious.

For my "use it up shelf" those ingredients are in a shallow basket on the shelf. This makes it easy to pull out the baskets and see everything that's in it. Nothing ends up lost in the back as a UFO... Unidentifiable Foiled Objects!

Rinsing fruit, vegs and berries with a mild vinegar and water solution kills any fruit fly eggs which helps the produce to have a longer shelf life.

Emmy, this video deserves two thumbs up! As a young bride, one of my favorite cookbooks was about making your own mixes, etc, and was a favorite. I still love making "store bought" items from scratch, 40 years later. As an added bonus, because both hubby and I have health issues, I must cook everything from scratch. Am I ever thankful I learned all those years ago these basic skills! The cake looked divine! When we used to be able to eat things like that, my favorite thing to do was top the warm cake with Marshmallow Fluff! Makes it taste like a Suzy-Q! Delightful video...can't wait for the next installment! Hi to Paul and Dixie : )
