We are currently living in the age of the echo chamber. We either agree to disagree or we put up walls and shut others out. Algorithms filter out stories and ideas that are not aligned with our lives causing an even greater divide among us. Is there a way to have uncomfortable conversations with other Americans in a way that is not only civil but also productive? Tara Marcink, a local LGBTQ advocate, says yes. Everyone wants to be heard, even those we disagree with. Who is right? Who is wrong? Maybe we are asking the wrong questions.

Tara is a wife, a parent and an advocate for conversations that cross the differences that separate us.

This is an awesome talk.

Talking about things is important. Just because someone disagrees with you is not a reason to disregard them. Listen and hear them. Talk to them. Simply hearing their words could make their day. Disagreeing with them is okay. Having a conversation with the people you disagree with is the best way to make change happen.
