The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the body. Sciatica occurs when the nerve is irritated. Symptoms can include numbness, tingling, and weakness in the lower back that goes down the back of the leg and even into the foot.

One of the most common things that happen is that part of the disk or the soft tissue around the disk is protruding into the nerve root.

4. Ginger

I’ve had Severe sciatica for 3 years stemming from a severe disc herniation. Severe pain as well, stretching and exercises didn’t help. Implementing more garlic helped but GINGER has SAVED ME. I have green tea with chopped ginger or boil it for strong ginger tea EVERYDAY. I also eat it raw and or cook with it regularly. Been doing this for 5 months and NO MORE PAIN AT ALL. Not even a little.

Thank you so much Dr. It's been a year that I am suffering from Sciatica. Diagnosed only in August, 2021 through MRI. Since then I am doing Physio therapy in hospital and McKenzie exercise at home. Exercising at home is the best remedy- 1) Donot lift heavy weights/ bend forward. 2) Always keep your backbone straight. 3) Please avoid sitting. 4) Exercise- Hot pad, McKenzie (it's mandatory to exercise when pain occurs, relieves pain). 5) Sleep- Low pillow for neck and high pillow for feet- straighten and relax your spine. Avoid sitting and traveling long bumpy roads. Keep patience, maintain discipline with your posture. It will heal slowly, tortoise is faster. Thank you.

I've read that sciatica on the left side could be a sodium deficiency, if on the right side a potassium deficiency. I used potassium when the pain was on the right side and it worked, in two days the pain was gone. Ginger has a lot of potassium.

I can personally vouch for all of these.
Also, 100% tart cherry juice- 1 Tblsp- will give about 4hrs. of pain relief.
Essential oil of marjoram massaged to the lower back is great too!

White Willow bark was cool I gave it to a lot of my customers at the medical marijuana dispensary I used to work at. It was a big hit and helped a lot of older clients that didn't like to get high but still needed pain relief.

I got rid of my sciatica when I finally managed to get the vertebrae in my lower back to pop back into place, it has not been back since and the relief was almost instantaneous.

Mine was contributed to a compound injury being a runner. I never took a strong anti inflammatory cause I wasn't familiar with this nerve at that time. Ultimately 4 years later surgery was my only option 'cause my disk had calcified due to lack of fluid, and oxygen. I literally couldn't walk, sit up, neither lay down. My doc scraped the spine clean where the disk was, then moved my sciatic nerve slightly over away from my spine. I've been pain free, and running since. Thanks Dr. David Musante.

Hi Dr berg!!
I have a problem of sciatic pain for 1 and a half year.
I tried alot of meds but there was no difference.
I tried herbal treatment.
I ate half teaspoon of powdered form of black seeds with powdered fenugreek in early morning and in evening. It is working great for me👍🏻👍🏻

Funny - I have been dealing with my sciatica this past couple of weeks. Cutting & bagging grass & leaves on over a third acre on Monday REALLY aggravated it. This video couldn't have come at a better time. I will give the turmeric & ginger a try with tea. It can't hurt! Thank you!

Thanks Dr Berg, I have been using peppermint oil for my lower back pain that I’ve had for 20 years. It is very effective. I spray it on, it worked right away, I have this pain only when I’m on my feet. It also gave me more energy, I spray a little on my chest, it seems to open up the airways and I can take in more oxygen. Have fatigue from RA and Fibromyalgia. Thanks for this help. I will start using more ginger and garlic.

I love a tea with a clove of garlic, which I score. A sprinkle of grated ginger. I keep the root in the freezer, and a sprinkle of turmeric. It is so good, and the aroma is as well. A small bit of Monkfruit sugar can be added for keto followers. I use Chamomile tea, because it is so beneficial, and relaxing, especially, if some tend to have cramping. I believe in its antioxidant properties. It makes me feel relaxed, and peaceful.

I can tolerate a good amount of pain, especially since being diagnosed with arthritis. However, there was a pain that I experienced about 2 months ago that dropped me to my knees and in tears. My doctor said Sciatica Nerve pain. One of my friends purchased me the Invospa Massager because it helped her. It does help but the pain returns in a matter of hours. I saw your video regarding using foams or something under the lower back, which I am trying but I'm glad to see some herbs that may help as well. Thank you!!!

Also ketones—a therapeutic level, which may require fasting and/or exogenous ketones or MCT oil after your last meal of the day. I have degenerative disc disease, and I find that I do exceptionally well if I fast a couple full days a week (or at least one weekend day) and get MCT oil after my last meal. I also do time-restricted eating and take long walks while fasted (mostly longer on weekends.) I don't know how walking affects sciatica, I'm not a doctor, and this is not medical advice.

FWIW, I use a Biosense breath ketone meter to verify that my breath ketones are above 10 ACEs (level of acetone) roughly more than half the time. (15 is considered therapeutic ketosis.) The advantage of a breath meter is that you can use it over and over again without consumables, so I use it several times a day, and have a really good sense of how much time I spend in therapeutic ketosis.

Work that involves lifting weights or sitting for long hours may cause damage to the vertebrae of the spine, and thus inflammation of the sciatic nerve.

Occasionally, I find my sciatica gets aggravated after bending down fully to the floor. I found that straightening up COMPLETELY AND lifting my shoulders UP AND BACK gets everything back to normal. This and STRETCHING !

I started having sciatica at age 20, like my Grandpa. Then at 25, I got a work-injury which caused a bulging disc in my lower spine. My chiropractor recommended taking curcumin daily, and I have ever since. I know for fact it helps with inflammation. It even helps with joint pain.
You're awesome, Dr. Berg! 🙏

Interesting topic. I suffered through intermittent bouts in the past but now am free of it at present. I attribute my success to working on proper posture and discovering the medicinal properties of Teasel Root then making a tincture for personal use. I also believe in the role Tallow has in fortifying the protective sheathe enveloping nerves. I use Tallow and lard as my main cooking fats now. I followed a strict Keto diet to get to a respectable weight 2 years ago and have incorporated an intermittent fasting routine that maintains my ideal weight even though my Keto diet is now no longer rigid. There is powerful medicine in simple herbs and common weeds ( like Dandelion greens) which have allowed me to turn my back on pharmaceuticals. Thanks for sharing.
