Answering Tommy McMurtry of the New IFB - Perseverance of the Saints 3 - the Place of Works

We examine the accusation that Perseverance of the Saints is equivalent to works salvation. We introduce the topic of IFB "Soul Winning", the door-to-door evangelism method, and immediately touch a nerve with Tommy McMurtry. In this practice, a prospect is approached at their house, given a 10 minute (or so) spiritual "sales pitch", and then proclaimed a Christian if they agree and pray a prayer "receiving Christ". This is done, despite the fact the vast majority of these people demonstrate no tangible evidence of their new-found "faith" whatsoever. What role does works play in salvation? They are not meritorious - that is, they are not necessary to be saved, but they are NECESSARY - as James tells us, they are the result of regeneration and will demonstrate that faith is genuine.
