Unconditional Election - Answering Tommy McMurtry of the New IFB - Do More than Scratch the Surface

We look into the issue of "Election" - every Christian believes in it or they do not believe the Bible. Christians are called throughout the New Testament the "elect", we are commanded to make our "calling and election sure", and so on. Defining election is another matter. We look into attempting to discern the New IFB position on election without the aid of any theological works - the only way is to go to You Tube and listen to sermons, which vary from day to day and preacher to preacher. There can be no dispute that God chooses who will be saved, the question is how He does it.

Brother, I appreciate your patient, calm declaration of the Word of God. As Lawson often says, "It's not hard to understand. It's just hard to swallow." Our pride and continual elevation of ourselves is why we must regularly preach the gospel to ourselves to be reminded time and time again that salvation is 100% the work of God.

Pastor, you mentioned the rules of hermeneutics, and since this is a largely ignored topic for our Arminian friends, I would love to reccommend a book that was reccommended to me by the folks at Ligonier. It is "Invitation to Biblical Interpretation: Exploring the Hermeneutical Triad of History, Literature, and Theology, " by Andreas J. Kostenberger and Richard D. Patterson. I am just now getting into it, but I am really loving it. It might make for some really good at-home reading for our NIFB friends, and the Leightonistic Provisionists (like Truth & Life) who occasionally drop by.
