It's one of the saddest feelings in the world when your mom can't be happy for you. I could never imagine not wanting to lift my daughter up at all times.

Let me say this... your mother could have it all. And still not desire the best for you. My mother has a good partner who gives her everything. But she still makes it her business to be envious of my relationships, education, and family. I myself continue to give her the relationship I desire from her, yet nothing is enough. My prayers to all those dealing with the same. May God give us the healing we need.

My mother never taught me anything. She was trying to ruin my life on day 1. Girls at my school said their mother taught them how wear makeup, my mom wore makeup but never taught me. My best friends taught me I had to change my underwear every single day at 7 years old. Neglect is abuse.

It took me years to realize my mum is jealous of me. She's sabotaged every single relationship I've had. I've tried to hide relationships from her but if she gets a whiff of it she's going to run her onslaught of abuse without even meeting the guy. I used to think it was because she has unusually high standards but I've come to realize she's just instinctively jealous

No contact works for me. I don't compete with anyone. Envious mothers have severe mental health issues. I knew at 8 years old I had to parent myself. I'm grateful for my grandma

What I've noticed is that narcissistic mothers and grandmothers are somewhat okay with you until you reach puberty. That first woman's story about getting married in court is exactly my story. But my mother is married.

My mother tried to totally destroy my self esteem from a very young age. She criticised every inch of my body, my face, my personality. She told me I was unlovable and was Satan's child. She still loves to say how she was the best mother ever.

My mom is jealous because I play guitar and sing, I'm younger, prettier, healthier, more financially stable...every thing good she's jealous of.

I’m having really bad flashbacks from the abuse. These mothers should have never had kids smh

From experience, Dad's do that very same thing as well.

Sometimes I cant understand my mom! She can be the nicest one & sometimes a monster! She can be the selfless & selfish at the same time! Im so lost with her! All Im sure of it I can see the competition she’s putting between us all the time! Now I cant even be close with my own dad without her being upset! & obviously denying everything she said or did!

When I got my degree my mom was proud AT FIRST. Then she started to stress me to apply for university and she also told me that I’ve changed a lot (since I have the degree)

She also was always so cute next to my friends and hugging them and giving them the affection I’ve never got from her.
And then some days later she told me that this friend is a bad influence for me.
She sabotaged a lot of my friendships especially when I was younger and trusting her words.

I (29F) am currently engaged, in the process of buying a house with my fiance, and planning for a puppy + family. It's a lot, but together with my fiance, I'm managing.
My mother never fails to make every aspect of this huge transition harder.
I have 3 younger brothers, none of whom are doing particularly well in life (mental illness, emotional repression, intellectual disability).
Every time I mention the projects my fiance and I are undertaking (wedding, house, family, etc) my mother becomes sullen, passive aggressive, obtuse, and occasionally downright nasty. She has tried to guilt me for planning a honeymoon with my fiance, while my poor, suffering brothers 'won't have their own opportunities to travel'. I showed her my wedding dress (she refused to go shopping with me), and she made a point of telling me that I'll 'need to wear a pushup bra, to make it look like I have something there at all'.
Between trying to cope, trying not to poison my fiance against my mother, and all the upheaval, I walk around in a state of low-grade panic attacks most days. 💀
Thank goodness for my fiance though. He's one of the first people I've ever known who makes me feel seen, loved, and brave. ❤️

I literally don’t tell my mom about anything going on in my life, but especially either really good things or really bad things until a lot of time has passed and even then, I don’t give many details at all. Because every time I’ve told her about something good, she’d do/say something to either really emotionally hurt me/shift everything to focus on things she wasn’t happy about/take credit for it.

Anything bad I’d tell her about, it would become about an experience she’d had that was way worse and eventually led to her sharing traumatizing experiences I had no way of knowing how to deal with, especially, because I was 8-9 when she started telling me that stuff. When I tried talking to her about not telling me certain things, she just got mad.
