How To Push On A Skateboard For Beginners

Today, we're talking about one of the most basic things you should know how to do on a skateboard, pushing! This is an easy concept to most of you but to those of you who may be brand new to skating or just haven't worked on your pushing skills too much, hopefully this video will offer some quick tips and insights into how I do my pushing. Just remember that a good foundation, including balance and know how to push well, is what is going to lead to you becoming even more familiar and comfortable on your board.

Thanks for the video man. I'm starting to skate and I've always been feeling my push is just "trying to not kill myself while awkwardly going forward". I'm gonna try to train a bit with my front leg like you recommended, maybe my board felling will improve a bit.

I've been told by my friend I skate with that my balance is visibly shifted to the front; I think maybe it's connected to my "push" issue? If not, I'd love to watch your vid for begginer skaters about balancing your weight on board (it's a bit embarrassing to ask for such a trivial thing, but hey, you've got to learn it somewhere).

This actually helped me a lot. I've been practicing skating and I've gotten fairly comfortable balancing on a moving board and I can turn left and right with my weight, but my push has been janky af. I've been doing that thing where I push too far back, like I reach my foot behind the board and so I'm not really getting much out of it.

This video works the same for learning to push Switch. I will say also for balancing on one leg is to do it over bumps, manholes and cracks to help for dexterity. Those bumpy dots for blind people at traffic crossings are really good for this also. Just skate back and forth over one of them for an hour and you'll master balancing on one foot. It's how I learned to push Switch!

I was doing all the wrong things and this video is actually so helpful. I’m not obviously as good as him. I’m still doing short distances at a time. But I can feel the difference as I feel more comfortable and how my balance feels better. I’m still wobbly a little and hopping off bc I’m a little scared. But this video is so helpful and he is right, with time you will get better. And I will too. ❤
