You need food to survive. So your body has built-in mechanisms that encourage you to eat. That is a good thing. However, in this world where high-calorie, low-nutrient foods are available 24/7, it is easy to breeze past survival and overeat. Over time, you can develop conditions that impact your appetite.

However, for this video, we'll focus on the built-in eating mechanisms that are programmed into each and every one of us and provide you with a few simple tweaks that will allow you to survive and thrive in our modern world without overeating.

I luv her calm voice! Never annoying to listen to her unlike others who are so hyper (sometimes overly acting) just to get your attention.

It's absolutely true. It's easier to fast than to try to just eat a little bit. I skip dinner most days because I'm an after dinner snacker so problem solved. I don't understand why so many fasting proponents advise skipping breakfast instead of skipping dinner.

My take-aways are:
- Don‘t start. It is easier to fast than to eat just a little bit.
- Sweets make you hungry.
- Reduce the number of decisions you habe to make: Eat a Salat for lunch every day.

I know this is true. As soon as I start eating, I find it hard to stop. My challenge is to change from grazing to eating larger meals and to stop snacking in-between meals. I've learned how bad snacking is but it's hard to break this lifelong habit.

My wife still fails to understand that I’m ok not eating especially when we are someplace that has nothing I want. Like at the ballpark where I’m not paying 14 bucks for a burger patty. It’s awesome not being hungry anymore since I gave up junk and carbs over 3 years ago.

Thank you! I feel related to this! This is my third time indulging in few days, I can see how food and sugar addiction begins. It's making me lose my strength mentally and physically. I feel it affecting me really bad. Tomorrow, I promise to not cause this kind of harm to my body, because I need it to get me through life! I hope I find the good spirit and energy in within. I'll continue my life, progress, read, learn, do my duty and find ways to push myself, I feel like I am losing my grip on my own life and commitments. Life is cruel. I hope I don't lose my life. I hope I help myself eventually. I hope I recover from all this tomorrow morning and get my life back! :)

I can 100% confirm all of these tips. I discovered them as I went from a yo-yo dieter to healthy eater - and I've lost and kept off 50 pounds. And there isn't anything I didn't/don't eat, I just follow these tips and a few more.

Dr. Becky your channel has really motivated this old guy. My dental work will be done by May 16th and then leafy salads/nuts are on the agenda.
Having stopped as much sugar as on can my fasting glucose is 94 to 104... The two skin tags are just about gone in 6 months.
Your videos as very supportive. ❤

Stress is really tough. And food tends to be a way to deal. Finding other stress outlets can really help. :)

Great vid. My downfall is potlucks or "free" food at work. Yesterday, I passed a jar of candy in 2 places at my work and did not reach in. Progress, not perfection, right? I have been on (and off) keto/low-carb for years and after several 1-day binges (emotional eating after a loss), I'm back on. I will be going to a potluck in a month; I'm bringing deviled eggs and a cheese tray. I'm hoping to stay away from carbs that day and show myself that I can do it. I would avoid the potluck, but I'm a guest speaker, so no out for this one. Fingers crossed! Thank you Dr. G. You're fabulous!

Lessening decision making is a fantastic suggestion. I have chia pudding for breakfast everyday and the same salad/protein type food for lunch. It makes life so much easier. Dinner is my most problematic time as I like to have something different.

2:09: I needed this information and will review it a few times. Yesterday, I received some thrilling academic news. My first thought was “I should celebrate with a cupcake. Just one”. But I know myself and it wouldn’t be one cupcake😟. Today, the thought reappeared a few times while I was out. I will not give in, but it helps to understand why I should not give in😊

I have epilepsy and fasting can cause problems for me. I do graze it works really well for me. I only eat whole organic foods and I eat a keto lifestyle. It took me years to be successful at grazing I am now in a place where I'm not over eating or craving more. Food sciences are so important. Thanks for the great content.

Being Italian, I grew up with huge portions (I could eat until 30's) and seconds were almost mandatory with many meals. The joke was while your mom/aunt/gram was asking, the food was in the plate. We set up habits so young with our children, not meaning to do harm, but the habits stay especially in stress, even when you know better. You really need to reset and your programs helped me a lot but the wires are still there, I just do much better, but not perfect.
