Let’s talk about how to get the benefits of vitamin D without the toxicity. The danger of vitamin D stems from too much calcium in the blood. Hypercalcemia is the big side effect of too much vitamin D.

Hypercalcemia could potentially lead to:
• Kidney stones
• Constipation
• Frequent urination
• Dementia
• Depression
• Ulcers
• Abdominal pain

However, these potential side effects can be reversible if someone stops taking vitamin D. It’s also rare for someone to have vitamin D toxicity. When vitamin D is measured in the blood, if it’s greater than 150, that can indicate toxicity.

A few things to help prevent vitamin D toxicity:
1. Vitamin K2 (100mcg for every 10,000 IUs of vitamin D)
• Vitamin D needs other things like vitamin K2 to work. Vitamin K2 helps keep calcium out of the soft tissues.

2. Bile salts
• Bile salts are important to help with the absorption of vitamin D.

3. Drink at least 2.5 liters of fluid per day
• This should be enough to help keep the calcium from forming kidney stones.

4. Magnesium
• Magnesium and vitamin D work together. It’s very important in the metabolism of vitamin D.

5. Limit dairy
• Limit the amount of dairy you consume when you take a lot of vitamin D.

Amounts of vitamin D you may want to consider taking:
• For maintenance: 10,000-20,000 IUs
• For therapeutic purposes (short term use): 20,000-50,000 IUs

Vitamin D toxicity is very rare. But, vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency is extremely common. 65% of the population has a vitamin D deficiency, and 95% of the population has a vitamin D insufficiency.

This was actually the best tip I've ever got from any doctor. I was repeatedly diagnosed with very low vitamin D levels, I had to sleep for 11 hours just to feel normal and I couldn't figure why. I did a vitamin D supplementation, but it was only about 2 000 IU per day for two weeks and I thought that was enough. I watched one of your videos, decided to test it out, so I bought vitamin D took about 15 000 IU yesterday and I woke up today after just about 6 hours of sleep feeling perfectly rested and actually not able to fall asleep, which is a miracle as I used to dream about going to bed after 11 hours long sleep and felt like dying if I had less than 8. If it was really just a vitamin D deficiency I am eternally grateful, as my days are now 5 hours longer :D

My mother suffered from severe Alzheimer's before she finally passed at 90. Her doctors said she had the bones of a 16-year-old as a result of the calcium intake from consuming Tums! She was never without her antacids. She'd have them in her pockets, and stashed around the house. It was interesting to see the connection between calcium and dementia that Harvard and studies from Sweden have shown. Thanks for all your insight doctor.

The reason why the active form of vitamin D (1, 25-dihydroxycholecalciferol) is not usually tested is because it is not as stable and only last 15 hours in the blood and apparently what you eat can make it up and down quickly...AND apparently the body doesn't grab some from reserves (fat) until you're very deficient.

Someday you may become the top dr on YouTube. Prevention is better than cure and I have seen how badly VitaminD deficiency affected me. Listen to him and keep researching yourself too. Your health is always in your hands.

Thank you for another informative video. I recently received results from the Omegaquant home test & I'm at 79.8. Been taking D3, K2, & cod liver oil caps for several years. Feeling good & have not had a cold or flu in many years. Live in the northwest U.S. & need the supplements, especially during the rainy season.

Make sure you take magnesium with D3, not only to help absorption but D3 supplements can deplete magnesium.

My health has improved so much that it would take too long to describe, but I have kept notes for eventually submitting my success story to you! Thank you with all my heart!

You are a master of communication. It’s thoroughly inspiring how effective you are at covering these difficult topics. I think great communicators like Tony Robbins would even find your effectiveness inspiring!
