I turned 23 recently and just graduated college, ah this hit hard... I haven't made any money from my art yet so I feel behind. I agree 1000% that the journey will be different for everyone. I teared up a bit with tip #4 and #5. Yeah, we should all become our own best friends! Thank you so much for sharing. Really, have a great art filled year! :D

I'm 35 and sometimes feel like I've missed out on the opportunity to pursue art professionally, but have to remind myself there's no age limit on learning and practicing art. Thanks for being a beacon of positivity, and I always enjoy watching your painting process as well as the finished pieces. Wishing everyone a fulfilling 2022, let's get those quests!

Speaking as some one who had spent less countless hours “hustling”, it’s pointless. I learn more from one hour of inspired work than 12 of forced learning.

That’s the best “bad habits” video I’ve seen in a long time - delivered in an honest, but characteristically compassionate Ross way

I love your “main quest/side quest” analogy too

The "omg I'm 23 and not where I want to be!" really hit home for me because I actually just turned 23 earlier this month. It's relieving to hear someone like Ross say that it's ok to not be where you want to be and that each journey is unique. Actually lifted a little bit of weight off of my chest!

I am literally about to turn 23 on Feb. 1st and I just started art school last quarter (fall). I feel so behind. I need this! Thank you ❤️

Love the idea of putting a “study session” in a project like the clouds examples. Putting things you like into the work is a cool way of doing it

I'm only 19 and I've been struggling with the feeling left behind already! I really needed this! Thank you so much!

I'm turning 27 in a month and I'm so upset I'd fallen out of art for almost a year because now I'm incredibly rusty. I love all these tips ♥️

Great video Ross, thank you! The last point was something I really needed to hear, all the way down to being 23 myself 😂 As a chronically ill artist, I can never predict how bad my symptoms will be everyday and I frequently compare myself to healthier artists who seem to constantly be grinding. It'd endanger me to do that--not to mention how everyone needs to care for their mental and physical health alike--so I often feel inferior thanks to my body. But there's more to art than just hustling, and I know I can grow without practicing nonstop.

Thanks for all the lovely tips, I hope 2022 treats you well!

Great Video Ross! What helps me when I'm having a hard time finding confidence in my art is my "Serotonin" folder😂 Where I literally just have screenshots of conversations with my friends, when they said something nice about my art, or clips of a streamer reacting to my fanart of them or photos of a big poster campaign I was recently fortunate enough to illustrate for. It just gives me so much energy and inspiration :D

really happy to hear "f*ck the hustle", i'm about to get into college and i'm afraid my portfolio won't be that great or that i won't get my dream art job, but we all develop and improve in our own time, at our own pace! thank you so much Ross for these tips <3

The whole 'be your best friend' thing is actually really important. I just finally finished my first ever comissions about and it was an actual chore because I had become a serial procrastinator and I was beating myself over it. But then my mom came around telling us that she had just read a book about self talk and how it can affect how you do things during the day. If you tell yourself 'I should be doing x' then you are not going to do it. But if you tell yourself 'I CAN do x' you will do it. And if you tell yourself 'I am DOING X and I am doing it great!' then you will absolutely do it and will probably do it well too.

This is a breath of fresh air. 19 here, and I feel stuck with my art and trying to find a college I want to pursue art in. This was something nice to think about. Thank you

You made me cry, I'm so frustrated with my art right now but what did you said about the things you wouldn't say to a friend made me feel better, I see now I'm being so rude with myself and I have to change that. Thank you for making this video, it's very useful ❤️

using references is like the best thing ever tbh, you can reference the pose, the lighting, the color grading, the composition and so much more, yet people still treat it as cheating and wrong

*listen to your mental health*
YES! this is so important! I've always felt so pressured my the hustle but honestly it's just straining and stressful which just drains you faster, PLEASE TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! ❤️❤️❤️

I really agree on that part were you talked about working really really hard especially because in this society we are so stressed about doing the right thing and not make any mistakes, so we dont ruin our future, wich is unrealistic cuz we are humans and we make mistakes and learn from them. And because of this it puts us in this constant pressure and fear to the point that we neglect our mental health and become unhappy with ourselves. So dont ignore your mental health people! take care of it and give yourself a pat on your shoulder and tell yourself that you deserve rest and that your doing really really great !! 💕💕
