A friend of mine, a doctor herself, once said "education doesn't prevent foilhatting" which is a sentence I would like to quote here.

So glad Im completely out of that orthorexic/diet culture obsession. Reminded me of how confusing it is out there. Just eat everything in moderation and move your body. We have enough stress in life, don't need to add anymore stress to our plate.

People in south asia have been eating lentils/pulses (daal) for hundreds of years. Now we cook them in pressure cooker to save time and fuel but earlier they were cooked in pots. And large scale population was/is not roaming around being morbidly obese. In our households it is a new lentil/pulse everyday in the lunch.

Starting to realize I have an unhealthy relationship with food. I’ve been struggling with amenorrhea because of my eating struggles. Thank you for making me feel safe here and giving helpful non judgmental advice it means a lot Abby ❤️

Can you please make a video about Tati? She recently posted a Q&A about her health journey and shared some pretty questionable nutrition rules she lives by.

I just wanna point out how many of the "problems" listed are negated by using traditional methods of food preparation (I was raised by a Mexican American that has always soaked her beans many times) like sourdough, fermentation, or soaking and roasting/boiling.

Thank you Abby! My mom has been so obsessed with this book and completely freaks out if my family eats lectins. I appreciate your knowledgeable information at combating diet culture

Wait, last I checked Tofu and Tempeh were made from soy beans and soy beans are a legume 🤔
The plot thickens...

I’m coming up on my 5 year mark of following a paleo-based diet and have avoided legumes during that duration but this video is sooo enlightening! I think I’m going to slowly start incorporating cooked legumes into my diet and see how I feel, which is a huge step for me! 😅

My mom has been on the anti-lectin wackadoo train for the last year. She’ll eat green beans cooked in an instant pot but not cooked in a crock pot.

Man, thank you :') I remember reading a portion of this book and KNOWING it wasn't right but you put it all into words perfectly. I'm a nutrition student right now but I aspire to be on your level one day.

I always thought this Dr was bazaar. My great grandmother lived to 102 eating nothing but pinto beans, veggies, potatoes, and a variety of other things. She was so healthy.

Video request: a review of low-protein diets. Dr. Peter Rogers is one proponent. Dr. McDougall and Dr. Walter Kempner are also in this camp. These are ~90-5-5 diets, or even more extreme. Rogers seems to go as low as around 4%, possibly even a bit lower, of calories from protein, along with minimal fats.
Others say it's important to get much more protein (and fats). I am especially interested in protein, and in preventing or reversing sarcopenia with the help of extra protein, along with appropriate exercises.

Hello Abbey! I would love it if you talked about research and/or professionals that looked at cultural context in weight loss, diabetes prevention, public health etc. This is so rarely talked about and important to talk about in the mainstream.

Finding a professional that incorporated my cultural food context was game changing for me and it just baffles me that we don't talk about this more.

I switched to a low fat, whole food vegan diet less than a week ago, and I feel amazing! I'm insulin resistant, and this diet is the only thing that was able to get my blood sugar levels back to a healthy range. And, yeah, I'm eating 3 serves of beans every day. 😁

Thank you, Abbey! I appreciate the amount of research you have done behind the scene to make these mini-lecture style videos. I absolutely love them! I love plant-based diet and eating vegetables makes me happy. However, I cannot find any comprehensive guide on how to prepare them. Could you make a video covering topics like should we eat most veggies raw or cooked? How to safely prepare or store salads? Should we still wash pre-washed salads and how? Should we choose organic greens over regular ones if we can, etc. There are just so many confusing voices out there…

Leaky gut isn't a new thing. I was diagnosed with it as a child 30 years ago and I know it's a syndrome and not a genuine medical diagnosis, but knowing the symptoms it contains has definitely helped me bring my allergies (and by extension) my skin condition into something that resembles control.

I tried this diet briefly a couple of years ago. It was the first time I had ever experienced hunger pains in my stomach. I’m so relieved to now be embracing all the foods I crave! Thank you so much for your videos. Your work has really helped me get over the hump of wanting to cling to restrictions.
