I know a lot of YouTubers are talking about burnout, but it's important to know that anyone can get burned out and be overwhelmed with their life. In order to shed some light on this I asked my best friend Johanna to share her story about being stressed out, overwhelmed, taking time off from work, and finally getting back to feeling like herself.

I would love to watch an episode about burnout and ADHD specifically. I feel like it's a constant balancing act between getting depressed and burned out because your normal mode of work that you love drives you insane, normal mode of work that you don't love makes you depressed and struggling and lashing out and getting fired, and your normal mode of non work makes you a total slob..

The inability to recognize that we need to take care of our needs is our biggest obstacle.

We just don’t give ourselves that space 😕

I’d like advice for those of us that can’t just “take time off”. I’m self employed, if I take time off I lose my business and don’t get paid.

Food service. Everyone I know who's been in food for more than a year is a smoker, drinker, uses heavy drugs, or does some combo of the three. Even I, knowing that alcoholism runs in my family, tend to drink after work bc I come home so tired and stressed. Food service ain't no joke, tip your servers and baristas and bartenders.

Hey Kati, could you maybe talk about burnout in university/college students?

Been a nurse for the past 12 years, I'm burned out beyond belief. I'm looking to change careers.

Shirt is amazing! 😍 Hi Kati, you should do some videos on burnout in PhD students- the statistics are crazy you’re like 30% more likely to experience anxiety or depression in grad school/research. I got my PhD in August and I still suffer from panic attacks and depersonalization, your videos help lots 🙂

Love this series but you missed a huge profession that experiences high rates of burn out...nurses!

Still crossing my fingers for inclusion of disability related burnout. I'd love to see that addressed because I've never seen it really talked about before.

I know so many of us get burnout from putting in so much effort into our "job" of being chronically ill and we definitely get burnt out from it and it gets really hard to deal. We can't exactly take a break from our bodies and the only way to be away from the barriers we face in public is to stay home. I personally feel it really is burnout. The reward/compensation for it all is much less than what the amount of work I put in and those feelings of letting people down are hard to combat if you can't get away from needing help. How do you combat that burn out when it is far more complicated since you can't remove yourself from the situation/environment that is causing the burnout? I think this is an important discussion that I'd really like to see being discussed and put out there. At the least it will make people feel less alone.

I’m type 1 diabetic, and the first time I heard about burnout in relation to my condition, it changed my life. I was convinced that I was one of very few who just stopped taking care of themselves because they couldn’t do it anymore. I thought I was a lost cause. I went to a conference and found out that apparently, just about every diabetic does it. That’s what really helped me get out of that place. I had some hope again. So thank you for educating people on this topic. It could save a life.

Kaiti, if you feel you are burnt out, you know that the world would understand and support you whilst you take care of only yourself, right? you matter just as much as anyone else, and i want to reiterate that. ♡ thankyou for giving your time and magic. your videos are so helpful.

It's great if one can take time off from work to take care of themselves. Unfortunately for a lot of people that is not possible, either moneywise or because there is no one else to do the work in the meantime or because you might even be let go entirely if you express the need to take time off for more than a few days, let alone weeks or months! A LOT of people don't have that luxury and that's where it gets really dangerous... a person can completely lose control over their situation and themselves when forced to go over the edge like that, when in the perfect world it could have been avoided...

I also work in home health and what you described the social worker doing (drive to people's homes, find a place to sit down (although you put it in a nicer way), sit in my car and document, try to fit everyone into my weekly schedule, work extra early or extra late and on weekends trying to keep up with my notes, in addition to calling doctors, therapists, and family members) is my job too. Being grateful, for even little things helps me. As does listening to positive affirmations in my car. I also find carving out specific times during my day to work out and meditate helps. I need to have time just for me- no work allowed! It's very easy to feel unappreciated and disrespected.

Loving this series as I'm learning so much. I do think that Burn Out is becoming more prevalent as we are required to do more but theres only so much we can all do

You might already be planning to cover this, but, do you have any tips for those of us in jobs we can't take time off from and or are limited by money?

Johanna makes me hopeful I've made the right choice. I've been a full time student since i was 23, I had a different path to college than many of my peers (almost 27) i held a full time retail job since 17, and at 25 i began to struggle, ive been coping with depression and anxiety for the most of my life. And the later part some social anxiety an ptsd recovery from an childhood dictated by a narcissictic single parent. My grandparents are my support system, i lost my long time retail job due tobtheir bankrupcy in 2017 no severence, no unemployment. I was a store manager. With my devotion to education making money has been a nightmare.

Today i met with my advisor. He told me as long as i keep doing what im doing. I'll be done with my achaeology degree by next summer.
The validation i had been waiting for. This is all worth something great. :)

the hardest part is letting go of trying to keep it all going, and not to let others down, but when you get past the fact that you cant go on, let the cards fall, its a big relief . you regain mental/physical health, love yourself and can come back even stronger, then pick up whats left, and whos got your back, true friends/family,

As a teacher, being single, and living paycheck to paycheck, I can’t take time off work. I also can’t afford my therapy or meds anymore. What else can I do for burnout?
