Terry Pratchett. Like, the Discworld books have some dark elements to be sure, but the magical thing about them is that they do so while still being hilarious and uplifting and hopeful. Sir Terry just refused to compromise to either side. One of the least edgy, that is a good place to start if you are not familiar with his work, is Wyrd Sisters.

Don’t forget not to make them overly sexual. No overly complicated love stuff that takes a way from the main story and is basically just watered down smut.

There’s a reason I watch a lot of kids fantasy shows. Sometimes there are adults that I can relate to.

For everyone saying Terry Pratchet and Discworld, OOP said more books like this, and I know for a fact they have already read all of those

This is pretty much the whole reason I'm writing a book right now. I'm not writing it with any specific age group in mind, just writing what I want to read. So the main characters are a married couple in their late 20's, and hunting monsters is their job.

This is *the* premise behind Tolkien's writing. I don't often recommend essays, but Tolkein's "On Fairy-Stories" really is the seminal work on fantasy as a genre for adults.

We need books like Percy Jackson or wings of fire for higher grade levels, because adults want to be able to read things at their level about those kinds of things, and also, kids at a higher grade level don't get challenged without having to read things not the most appropriate for them (or just super dark, like stated in this video)

Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson is one of the most lighthearted and silly fantasy books that still invested throughout that i have read in a long time. Would definitely recommend, especially if you’ve read Stormlight or Misborn.

Frodo was 33 at the beginning of _The Lord of the Rings._ Sure, it’s got its dark parts (characters succumbing to the Ring’s corruption, characters dying) but it’s also got fun parts too (Tom Bombadil, for example).

Recent book made by one of our own called “Just Stab Me Now”, with 2 protagonists:
One is a 36 year old mother of 2 who is caught up in a war and romance, and the other is the author of the book who is balancing her bs job with her writing deadlines and related drama as well as her characters’ shenanigans.

My recommendation:
Drew Hayes - Fred, The Vampire Accountant series

I got it on audible thinking it was gonna just be okay, but its one of my all-time favourite series

I see it from a different angle. Not every story targeted at children are for children only.
Sincerely, an Owl House fan.

Brandon Sanderson, one of the best fantasy novelists. Great world building, fantastic character development, interesting and diverse magic systems throughout all his books. Highly recommend most of his stuff. Mistborn, Stormlight archive, etc. good stuff.

That's what I love about the Dresden Files series. It definitely has its dark moments, but overall it's just plain fun magical adventure. I think Jim Butcher and Brandon Sanderson are just great reads in general

Scott Meyer’s Magic 2.0 series is awesome! The first couple are classics and I think the quality kinda falls off in book 3 but they’re all fun reads.
