Moderation is everything! People who say you can _never_ have a certain type of food are miserable for no reason. You absolutely can go grab that toast and those cookies. The art is in knowing how much is too much.

The biggest issue with diet culture is it's partnership with hippy food culture. If you think a qinua chia mocha latte or whatever is healthy even if it is massed produced by a company claiming to make healthy food is foolish. Learning to make food from scratch is the best way to be healthy. There are many ways to be healthy without sacrificing taste like minced mushrooms that is unnoticed in spaghetti and many other pasta dishes. If you make the food yourself you can make it taste like perfection while being healthy and a garden isn't to hard to maintain for oregano, thyme, and parsley.

All the dietitians I’ve met have also hated diet culture
I don’t eat the best but when I was talking with a dietitian in the hospital I was staying at a few months ago, she told me to keep eating what I was eating but to also try to ease new and healthier foods into my diet that I genuinely enjoy (which is a little difficult bc I have an eating disorder, ARFID to be exact) and to not force myself to eat things I don’t want to, and im so glad she told me that, especially when like a week before I had someone tell me if that I ate better all of my chronic illnesses would go away 😭

Telling yourself not to eat something means you will crave it 100% of the time. Balance is everything.

I haven’t had sweets in days, but if I try to restrict by telling myself I can’t have anything, my brain will literally go “tf I can’t!” and now I want an entire cake.

As a person who can’t eat wheat, potato bread and potato donuts are indeed a marvel of modern times

I want abs to be strong and give people piggy backs, but I also want my tummy to be soft like a pillow so I can comfort people. Bread helps me accomplish this.

Same, I hate diet culture too. It sucks to be allergic to bread, the most basic food that has varieties in every culture.

But I am very pro-carb. At least I have potatoes, rice and corn. Oh yeah, and chocolate chips!!!

Sadly, I think hyperfocusing on your diet so often does more harm than good.
Bloating is often a sign of undereating- btw, but nobody talks about it until you're in ED recovery. I feel like people need to know, it's healthy to eat.

Bruh. I live for this. My wife diets all the time (admittedly she is very aware of fads and just generally tries to eat less carbs and less processed foods) but I hate watching what I eat because food is like a love language for me. She does make AMAZING food all of the time and I praise her for it but I also love red meat and potatoes. I almost cried the last time she made a roast, not because I missed it, but because I know that she loves me enough to make me things she knows I love. She is an amazing woman and I love that she wants me to be healthy but my mental health also depends on getting joy out of my food that she does not require.

As someone who has to follow an incredibly strict diet for health reasons, most people who talk about how certain foods are super bad for you and cause inflammation are overzealously following half truths. Even when you have an illness affected by foods, the food doesn't cause the illness, but it can make it worse, never trust someone saying they cured an incurable disease by changing their diet. They probably managed their symptoms, and it was the first relief they got under a medical system that neglects people and says it can't do any more to help the symptoms. Changing your diet is a big part of treating and managing chronic illnesses that's often overlooked, but it is not a cure all.

Unless you have an existing health condition, just use moderation and be mindful of getting all of the necessary nutrients and fiber and water you need.

freshly baked bread is amazing, and making it is really therapeutic for me (I've made midnight bread more than once when I couldn't sleep). pair it with soup you've just made and you get a lovely filling meal

but some days I don't have the energy to chop vegetables and skin and shred a rotisserie chicken for my favourite soup, sometimes I just want a fucking pot noodle or some egg fried rice. and as someone who semi-frequently forgets to eat, lemme tell you that there is almost no food which is worse for you than not eating. if all you can stomach is fast food or snacks or whatever, eat it. your body needs fuel and not having that fuel makes you feel awful —been there, done that, passed out from it

Quality of life shouldn't be measured by how many years you live, but how good those years are. A waist is a terrible thing to mind.

When your body is old and you are no longer considered young and beautiful, you will look back at old photographs of yourself and wonder why you ever wasted so much time and emotional energy worrying about your looks. Trust me, no one worth your time is critical of your looks. You are your worst critic by far.

Enjoy your youth, embrace your body and your mind because they are absolutely perfect just the way they are.
Time is incredibly fleeting and one day you will wake up and realise that you have become invisible ❤

Absolute facts. Getting rid of aspects of life is just a no no.
It's like that one time I saw an alphasigma post saying that waving is gay so you should stop it? Like, bro what?

Guys make home made bread. Trust me it tastes better, there's less sugar, and if you freeze it you can lower the glycemic index! Plus freezing is a great way to keep bread fresh because it lacks the preservatives

I think that when they said “carbs are bad for you”, they meant that it’s simply unhealthy to eat too much. I don’t think they were necessarily talking about the beauty standards and how people are expected to be stick thin. It’s just like… it’s not good for your body to eat too much carbs (of course it’s good in moderation).

The key issue is comparing calorie intake v expenditure. If you are at a desk all day, not moving, even 3x a week visits to the gym will still lokely put you in excess. Need to use those calories otherwise you end up obese. The science behind food is so lost on most people, whether or not OP is within that category

I have a story, a close friend of my family cut off every carb, every fat, he lost so much weight in very little time and then proceeded to ger pancreatitis, he almost died. I distinctly remember my dad saying the pH of his blood had changed, do you have any idea how bad off you have to be for that to happen?

I am on a keto diet as treatment for a medical issue and I literally dream about garlic bread and pasta almost every night. I reasses with my doctor in 2 months and as soon as I leave that office I'm going straight home to make lasagna, fettucini alfredo, garlic bread and hot brownies with vanilla ice cream. It is the only thing keeping me going 😂
