Let’s talk about the top foods that deplete nutrients. You need to be aware of both sides—foods that provide nutrients and foods that lead to nutrient deficiencies.

Limit or cut out these things that deplete you of nutrients:
1. Raw egg whites
2. Refined sugars
3. Refined grains
4. Alcohol
5. Caffeinated beverages
6. Trypsin inhibitors (soy, grains, beans, nuts, seeds, nightshades)
7. Tannins (tea)
8. Excess calcium or consuming a lot of dairy without enough leafy greens
9. Oxalates (spinach, beet greens, almonds, almond flour, chocolate, Swiss chard, grains, beans)
10. Phosphoric acid (soda)
11. Phytates (cereal)

Consuming these things can deplete you of important nutrients, including:
• Biotin
• Vitamin B1
• Zinc
• Magnesium
• Vitamin C
• Certain amino acids
• Fat-soluble vitamins
• Calcium
• Iron
• Vitamin B3
• Chromium
• Copper
• Manganese
• Vitamin D

I've been in ketogenic diet for 8 months now. Recently, i was diagnosed of urinary tract infection. I think i had been eating foods high in oxalates such as nuts, peanut butter, okra and other leafy vegetables. I'll try to adjust my diet again, but i won't stop my ketogenic diet. ❤ thank you, Dr. Eric Berg for all of your videos.. it inspires me to live a healthy and an informed life. ❤❤

Hi, can you talk about drinking water before and after a meal? The general process of it is well known but it would be nice if you have something new or/and interesting/uncommon things to add.

Thankyou for doing this one. People need to be aware of these things.
Be great if you could do a part 2 - on how to prepare or take each of these foods to reduce their mineral depleting effects. Am thinking of things like boil spinnach and eat with yogurt to neutralise the oxalate. But, hey.. you'll know this much better than I.

Exactly. I know my coffee consumption wrecked my electrolyte and vitamin levels. Only one cup a day now. It was just like drinking too much water and dying from lack of sodium. I’m on the path to recovery now and feeling good with that D3👍🏼

I’d like to know from Dr. Berg what does a perfect meal plan look like. I eat nuts quite often and because of them I went to the doctor and she said may magnesium levels were great, and they weren’t prior. But now I have to worry about them depleting other nutrients? Before my potassium levels were fine, then my doctor ordered me to drink more water by my weight. Started that, now I’m struggling to keep my potassium up. It seems like there’s an issue either way.

I believe this 💯. I've become strongly gluten intolerant and couldn't really explain what it was to the doctors because I had SO many symptoms. Each doctor just gave me several types of pain meds and labeled me with having 3 different auto-immune diseases and chronic asthma. I'm only in my early 30's, I exercise and am at a normal weight range for my height! What was going on?? I got an allergy test for gluten and dairy and it came back negative, yet since i gave up all gluten and have limited dairy/caffeine, my symptoms have all vanished. Neropothy, numbness, extreme dry eyes, dry skin, vertigo, stomach issues, bowels issues, joint issues I could go on. I am in the healing process now. I believe this is true that grains, especially in America, deplete your body's minerals. Food used to be of better quality. I wish we had higher standards for soil quality and food quality here in America. It truly feels like we are being poisoned. Anyone else have similar experiences?
