Does vitamin D cause high calcium levels?

A recent news agency reported that taking vitamin D3 could cause dangerous levels of calcium in your blood. Called hypercalcemia, such an excess is associated with confusion, dysregulated heart rhythm, kidney stones and more.

It is true that hypercalcemia can cause such symptoms. But is it true that vitamin D3 is the cause?

Unlikely. And when I say unlikely, I mean extremely unlikely.

The report had a vast amount of false data and exaggeration. Vitamin D3 is an extremely important nutrient. Please listen to this video to get the full story.

I took D3 without K2, probably for 6 months (I didnt know this). Perhaps it already did damage? Is that reversable when I will take the wright supplement (D3 with the K2) from now on? I'm from the netherlands, so perhaps my english is not that great. Hope you understand me.

I have histamine sensitivity and get allergy responses to histamine - the k2 supplements I know of are from fermented sources which is high in histamine . How can I take vitamin k2 ?

Thank you for your view on this. A panic in the public square is dangerous.

I was diagnosed with very severe osteoporosis in January 2023. Had blood tests with functional medicine physician in March: level was 44, calcium 10.2. Had been taking 5000 iu D for several years, no Vit K.

Saw a new allopathic primary care provider in June. He tested PTH and calcium. Calcium down to 9.2, PTH normal range.

In August, saw an endocrinologist who ordered more tests, including 24 hour urine and Vit D.

I'd started taking my D with cod liver oil as well as other things to improve absorption generally. Blood calcium up to 10.0, Vit D 107!! 😮 24 hour urine calcium slightly elevated at 298 (his range suggested the top was 250.)

Endocrinologist didn't seem worried, just said drop the D back to 2000 iu and we'd talk about the calcium when I see him in November.

I am just curious, of course, and looking for info...I do see the functional med doc in October, she might have thoughts, might not; her basic premise seems to be "heal the body, heal the bones/parathyroid/etc." I hope that's true. I've never had all these tests done before, (except blood calcium, it has tended to be in the 9s, just recently started hitting 10s, ) so really don't know what's normal for me.

All I do know is I'm 62, and I have the bones of a 95 year old, with the fractures and height loss to go with them, so if there IS something I can fix, I want to fix it So far, the only "answer" besides genetics seems to be "absorption issues" and, maybe I have made some inroads there.

*I did feel the naturopath wasn't taking my bones seriously enough; they told me, if I had fractures, I wouldn't be functional, (fractures weren't confirmed at this point, but I'd lost too much height NOT to have had them, ) which I knew wasn't true, and a blanket statement like that did erode trust. So I branched out, confirmed fractures, started Fosamax so they wouldn't yell at me. Was then prescribed Evenity, but insurance denied it, so I'm in medication limbo, but getting close to the year mark, so am thinking I'll just keep trying to deal with "root causes" and get another DEXA in January, and...we'll see. **

Question. If I take a multi vitamin and supplement and also take a magnesium/calcium/boron pill supplement can I also be able to take a vitamin D supplement of 5, 000.IU? Without contradictions? Does vitamin D interferes with magnesium uptake ?

3 million IU 😂 What the hell. Perhaps that's the equivalent of standing on the surface of the sun.
