In this video, we’re going to talk about vitamin D toxicity. Some people are afraid of taking too much vitamin D, when it may not be as scary as you might think.

According to an article by the Mayo Clinic, vitamin D may not actually be as toxic as was once believed.

In the 1940s, vitamin D was used for rheumatoid arthritis. But, the amounts being used were between 200,000 and 300,000 IUs of vitamin D. The reason this could have helped is that vitamin D helps support the immune system and helps lower inflammation.

In the 1950’s they were fortifying products like dairy products with vitamin D. But, there were some complaints from parents with children who had side effects. The fortification of vitamin D in dairy was banned in Europe, but not in some other countries, including America.

Years later, it was discovered that these children might have experienced these side effects due to a rare genetic disease called Williams syndrome. With Williams syndrome, you don’t actually want to take vitamin D at all.

Now, when you look at vitamin D, it always says something along the line of “don’ take too much, you could experience a toxic effect.”

But, according to this article by the Mayo Clinic, it would take getting 50,000 to 100,000 IUs of vitamin D for months to years before vitamin D would become toxic. This is actually a lot more than what most people consider toxic.

When talking about vitamin toxicity, we’re referring to hypercalcemia, which is too much calcium in the blood.

When people are afraid of vitamin D toxicity, they end up taking smaller amounts like 1,000 to 2,000 IUs per day. But, with this amount, it could actually take four months or more to bring a vitamin D deficiency up to a normal level.

If you want to decrease the potential risk of kidney stones, you could drink 2.5 liters of fluid every day, avoid taking calcium and avoid dairy.

They always say check with your doctor but most doctors are so closed minded about anything brought up to them.. "you can't believe everything on the internet" but they believe outdated textbooks they have read 10-20 years ago... there IS useful information online you just have to look for it wisely.

Taking Vitamin K2 along with Vitamin D3 will also help move the calcium where it should be - your bones. Not your kidneys or arteries.

I take 6000 IU a day. I am an RN and I have people cough in my face while listening to their chest many times. I never get respiratory infections.

I normally was taking 8000 IU daily. I'm bumping it up to 12, 000. Thank you Dr Berg for addressing one of the biggest silent epidemics in the northern hemisphere.

The problem with asking our doctor’s advice our doctors don’t want us to get better with the right nutrition and supplements, they want us to be addicted to horrible pills 💊 that harm us 10000 times more and to keep knocking there doors so they can fill💰💰. You helped me a lot🙏🙏

I've been taking 70, 000 IU's of D for about a year to keep my Psoriasis at bay. I'm finally now at a consistent 1 or 2 on the pain and intensity scale for my Psoriasis.

I've heard that that kind of water intake needs to be balanced by small amounts of Celtic salt, or Himalayan salt. Not the sodium form of table salt! Barbara O'Neil speaks how this regulates water intake into cell structures hence avoiding inflammatory effects. She mentions this, and discusses this in detail.

Dr Berg, I’m an NP and what I was taught for functional medicine values is about 60-80 for vit d. I would start off patients with 5000 IU check then in about 3-6 months and go up or stay from there

Dr. Berg I trust you and your information. I don’t need to check with anyone first. Main stream Dr’s and even my Naturopath have let me down. I have done so much research and reading over the past year and a half and you sir have helped in that knowledge. Thank you for all you do! I feel like I’m slowly getting my life back after struggling with Long Covid and also finding out my Genome testing revealed an MTHFR mutation. Love your content!! ❤️
