That’s your basic Santa Maria bbq that raises and lowers in the first place you stopped at. They used to make them out of oil barrels cut in half and weld on the grill and crank gizmo. Coals in the barrel meat on the grill. Bako also has outstanding Basque food!

Born and raised in LA. However, lived in the central valley for 5 years and LOVED it. Part of my college life and first teaching job. Great people and wonderful FOOD. Thank you for the positive video about this neck of the woods.

Appreciate this the valley is a special and integral place to this nation. Very underrated and I'm proud to be from here.

I love all the options the Central Valley has to offer especially that cheese chowder! The BBQ and the quesadillas look quite tasty too. I'm glad you are doing this series on the Central Valley. I have not seen too many videos on that part of California, and it looks really neat to check out!

Chris! I’m big fan on your channel and I actually used a couple of your videos to plan trips to HK and Japan. That said, I feel so honored you featured my hometown of Bakersfield! If you’re ever back in Bakersfield, even just passing through, you gotta try the bbq at the “Angry Barnyard”. Oh and try some Basque food too!

Holy mother of all scrumptious foods!!! You really did it this time! 😳😳😳😵‍💫😋😋😋
You’re a mean mean travel guide for making us desperately hungry like that.
Good ol’ American food, after my own heart. 😀 Comfort food just doesn’t get much better than this. 👍🏻

These videos really fill the void left when Huell Howser passed. This video in particular reminded me of California's Gold. It's fantastic.

Hi Chris. Thanks for the tasting tour of the Central Valley. So many delicious food options. I love the BBQ at Saltys and the Pork rind nachos from the Divine Swine. Would also like to try that Putah Creek Cafe. Good to know that it's fresh from the farm. it possible to do like a day trip thru the Valley or break it up into several days. Take care and have a great weekend.

Mouthwatering.
I'll put all of those on my list of places to visit.
If I ever make that trip, I'll come back home in the cargo compartment of the aircraft, but I think it will be worth it, lol.

You need to try Wool growers in Los Banos 100 year old restaurant that hasn’t changed. Basque food in the valley is a lost food. Not many places left, I know Bakersfield and Fresno has some too but I grew up at the Los banos. It was our halfway meeting spot for all my family! Half of us from Santa Cruz and half from Merced area. Lamb stew and cold Vino 🎉

Funny, I just had a home-made grilled cheese sandwich with Gouda for lunch today. One of my favorite cheeses that I keep slices stocked in the fridge. I love Gouda...next time I pass through Modesto I'll have to stop. Award winning Gouda you say? 🤔 I'll be on the lookout.
You are all over the central valley.

I am from Modesto, and am familiar with Oakdale cheese and Hilmar cheese. I did the electrical for the newer office building across the street at Hilmar cheese. And btw, those are alpacas. The difference between alpacas and llamas are that alpacas weigh 150-200 lbs, and llamas weigh 400+ pounds and much bigger. If you ever get the chance to pet an alpaca, you should. Their fur is micro fiber and extremely soft!

I have to agree that Oakdale Gouda is the best!
