8 Incredible Foods That Calm Autoimmune Diseases

8. Sunflower Seeds

Are you looking for a way to boost your immune system and alleviate the symptoms of your autoimmune disease? Look no further than sunflower seeds! These small but mighty seeds pack a nutrient-dense punch that can help rebalance your immune cells and fight chronic inflammation. One of the key components of sunflower seeds is vitamin E. In fact, a 100g serving of sunflower seeds can deliver up to double the recommended daily intake of this important vitamin.

7. Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Extra virgin olive oil is not just any ordinary cooking oil; it may hold the key to easing the pain and inflammation associated with autoimmune diseases. Recent studies have shown that it contains two major components that play an essential role in managing inflammation: oleic acid and oleocanthal antioxidants.

6. Sweet Potatoes

Looking for a healthy and delicious vegetable to add to your diet? Look no further than sweet potatoes! Whether you prefer them boiled, steamed, roasted, or mashed, sweet potatoes are a versatile and nutrient-packed option that can benefit your immune system. One of the benefits of sweet potatoes is that they do not contain nightshade alkaloids, which have been linked to allergy-related symptoms. Instead, sweet potatoes are rich in potassium, beta-carotene antioxidants, vitamin C, and vitamin A. These nutrients work together to support healthy cell protection, decrease vitamin deficiency caused by autoimmune disease, and soothe inflammation.

5. Fatty Fish

If you're a fan of fish, you're in luck! Not only is fish a tasty addition to any meal, but certain types of fish can actually be super beneficial for those with autoimmune diseases. So, what's the catch? Well, you'll need to opt for fatty fish varieties, like salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel, or anchovies, that are rich in omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. But why are these fatty acids so important? Well, studies have shown that omega-3 fatty acids can inhibit an inflammatory marker called C-reactive protein, which has been linked to worsening autoimmune reactions.

4. Turmeric

Autoimmune diseases can be challenging to manage, as the immune system mistakenly attacks healthy cells in the body, leading to chronic inflammation. Fortunately, some spices like turmeric may hold the key to calming the immune system. Turmeric, a golden spice commonly found in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine, has been shown to have promising effects on a wide range of autoimmune diseases. The active ingredient in turmeric, curcumin, has been found to reduce the production, activation, and migration of antibodies, making it an excellent tool for autoimmune balance.

3. Green Tea

Green tea, a hot beverage enjoyed worldwide, has become increasingly popular for its health benefits. One of its potential benefits is its ability to soothe the immune system. This tea is packed with epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a potent antioxidant that has been found to reduce the production of cytokine cells, which play a role in autoimmune diseases.

2. Mushrooms

Mushrooms are one of the few plant sources of Vitamin D, and wild mushrooms are especially rich in this nutrient. In fact, they contain almost three times the recommended daily intake of Vitamin D2. That's right, wild mushrooms are like a little ray of sunshine for your immune system.

1. Leafy Greens

Leafy greens are an excellent food choice to calm autoimmune disease. They are packed with a range of nutrients that include vitamins A, C, E, and K, minerals such as calcium and magnesium, and antioxidants that help fight inflammation and protect the body against free radical damage. Moreover, leafy greens also contain beneficial plant compounds like carotenoids, flavonoids, and glucosinolates, which are anti-inflammatory in nature.

All these foods have been staples of my diet. Yet, unless you banish sugar and all highly processed carbs, the benefits of all 8 are drastically diminished! The story of my life.

There’s so much talk about which foods to eat but fasting and intermittent fasting along with avoiding trigger foods is truly effective.

My rheumatoid arthritis was completely gone just months after I gone vegan. Meat, eggs and dairy are the culprit of autoimmune diseases - I found out later after digging into medical journals. Why didn't my doctors tell me about this?!!! It has been 11 years, and RA has not come back. Good luck and good health to you all!

I've had (sle) lupus for over 38 years now. The old ways of the foods are coming back to successfully help calm the autoimmune diseases. My lupus has been in remission for over 11 years now. The biggest problems I have are weight & knee joint pain. As an old Doc said to me "get to know your body's does & dont's" it will thank you.

The video did mention there are a number of autoimmune diseases so maybe the sunflower seeds are good for some but not all types. I don’t know. I’ve learned although these videos can be helpful you really have to adapt them to your body. It certainly isn’t a one size fis all. But any knowledge is better than no knowledge .
