i only lose weight when i eat rice. i hate counting calories and when i eat what ever i want i gain weight every day obviously but if i eat mostly starches and eat until i am full i lose weight every day. most of my family does keto and i am just shocked that we both can lose weight and gain health on such different diets.

I may have a question (or a critics). This is a study, hence a very controlled-environement. I've tried both LCHF and HCLF, but I noticed that carbs are making me incredibly hungrier, so I would then eat more and calories intake would be higher each day. So even if «fact-wise speaking», both are equivalent in the end, I think that satiety is an element directly linked to behaviour aspects of food intake (and therefore calories intake). The question doesn't seem to me to be as much as « is fat or carbs a better fuel » or « is it eating mostly carbs or fat that is gonna make me lose weight » than « which one of these 2 diets leads me easier to a better satiety feeling and prevents me from eating too much each day ». Does what I say make sense?

Very well put Will, I've realized that a little of everything can be beneficial....moderation is essential. Having put on weight several times due to studying, serious injury or just limited time I know what works best for me to lose the weight and being in a caloric deficit has always worked well.

Love the videos Will, thanks! Nutritional info like this is super helpful. For me i've always tried to keep on top of my weight eating as much high density low calorie food (mostly veg, weakness for home made simple popcorn though :P) as possible and works a treat for me. More importantly I find planning in a "cheat" afternoon or evening once a fortnight works, gets those urges gone!

I lost weight very fast with Keto but gained it all back as soon as I stopped being consistent

Just to make it clear, this study compares 48% carbs vs. 30% carbs, which is far away from keto and cannot be used to assess the effect of a ketogenic diet.

Whenever I consume a high-carb, low-fat (HCLF) diet, I tend to gain weight and experience discomfort. I find that I do much better on a low-carb, high-fat (LCHF) diet.

Thank you. All its all calorie, diet is not the key. I could imagine because all diets are confusing.

Can you give idea for how many percentage for fat, protein and carb?

Calories and crap. Cut the crappy foods and you will drop the weight. Also, HCLF and HFLC are equal as long as you don't decide to change lanes and ride the median: don't do HFHC... it's a recipe for disaster, even if you cut your calories. If your calories are low enough, you will lose weight, but your health will surely suffer. The best plan in the end, is the one that you can stick to.

Doesn't HFLC and LCHF mean the same thing? I assume it should be HFLC and HCLF?

The best diet is the one that works for you.
I tried HFLC and didnt lose an ounce.
Then went HCLF and dropped 10 lbs in a week.
Weight loss has naturally slowed since some of that 10 lbs was water but Im averaging around 3 lbs a week.

Interesting you mentioned the DNA testing kits you can get to see if you are high carb etc. For this as you say they are essentially useless as it’s just maths calories in/out however are there any other useful metrics to be gained from them from a performance perspective not weight loss?

what about a diet where i don’t stress about the carbs and fats im eating? i’m in a caloric deficit, concentrating on getting high protein so i don’t pay much attention to my fats and carbs. should i start to? i don’t see many people talking about a middle ground between the two (carbs and fats)
