"you don't get stronger because you use more weight, you use more weight because you got stronger"
That's such a great line and I wish i had heard this years and years ago.

Edit: there seem to be some people confused, the take from this is essentially increase load (whether that's weight or rep range etc... when you can not for the sake of adding more load). This is the safe way of progressive overload

If you overload for the sake of overloading, before you are ready, you risk injury. If you overload when you feel comfortable with the weight you've been doing, your body is telling you it's ready to take on more, and that it has acclimated to the load you are doing. If you're stuck, pushing more weight is at risk of injury, there are other things you can do; increase volume, increase rest, switch up exercises.

The comments on "perfect technique" is vital and more people need to consider this! We're not the built the same, so how can we all move the same.
Killing it as always Eugene!

Great motivational video. Working out is sometimes really hard, but you have to stay persistent. There is really no secrets on how to achieve best shape of your life. Go to gym 4-5 times per week, be hard working, eat properly (I suggest meal plans from onlymeal), and sleep at least 7 hours per day. That's really everything you need, whether you want to lose fat or gain muscle.

Female Eugene was not on my 2025 bingo card. But I'm not upset about it.

I tried everything, preworkouts, youtube gurus, morning routines that nearly killed me. none of it hit. then i saw someone mention Testosterone Rewired by David Brooks in the comments and it literally changed my life. Something shifted. not overnight magic, but clarity. Following everything in that book past couple of weeks made me realize I was running on empty for YEARS. wish I knew about this years ago🔥

Loved the nuanced take on Mike's slow eccentrics.

Ive been speeding my reps back up to a reasonable degree in the past year after going too hard into the "control" camp, and its been working wonders to find whats best for ME specifically.

After training for 25 years, and training others for 15 years, I have found that tempo DOES have a place, but NOT for anything to do with muscle growth or strength...but for STANDARDIZING the lift. Many times, I found myself getting "stronger" simply because I changed my tempo or technique. If I standardize my tempo with an explosive concentric and a two count eccentric, then I have a path to follow, and I'll know if I'm actually increasing my muscle strength, or just changing my execution. The same seems to go for most everyone else I've trained.

This is probably the best workout advice video in YouTube right now.

I love your videos. Why? Because I always feel like you're goal is not to "fad" me, not to "perfect" me, but to free me from all that shit, inspire me into the gym, and just simplify the shit out of what I'm doing and not overthink. I always look forward to my next gym session after watching your vids. Thank you, Eugene, thank you so much!!

Your body doesnt know how much you're lifting. Only thing the body knows is resistance. I got buffed in my 40's lifting the same weight for weeks...even months...people kept telling me to progress in weight more often...i was stupid enough to listen and injured myself doing so. I was out for almost a year and i lost my muscle mass, so when i healed up...i went right back into lifting, and i did it my way and didnt listen to anyone else this time around. Got my muscle mass back and i feel great! Everyones body is different so do what works for you folks. What may work for others, may not work for you. I don't want to be super buffed, i just want to be and look healthy at 48 years old and as I get older.

This is by far the best and simplest analysis of all things resistance training.

If you want to get better at something keep doing it and never tell yourself you've found a magic solution because it doesn't exist.

Time under tension has exploded my muscle growth. Slow and steady really feels right for me - I am over 70!

Some weeks I wnd up lifting less than the previous week. Just stay tuned into your body and make sure you don't push yourself right into an injury and then not be able to work out at all. Great video Eugene 🎉

Finally we got someone who's not here to feed us crap...
And is here to show us the way without making headstands on a bench, and without telling us to make a
"standing dumbbell fart" .
Thank you Eugene!
We appreciate what you do ❤

Great explanation on progressive overload! I was so confused by the words "you should progress each session" in the past. Like bro, if people could do that, all gym goers would have superhuman power by now...
