Why You Wouldn't Survive 'HOW IT ENDS' + Apocalypse Explained

“How It Ends” is a movie about a dad and his daughter's lover going on a roadtrip across America. Why would a dad go on a roadtrip across America with his daughter's lover? Well, besides being sponsored by Cadillac, they are trying to find and save said daughter because the cell service cut out right as the daughter said she was scared, oh, and F22’s started flying over the city. It’s never a good sign when F22’s fly over your city when there’s no scheduled air show. During their road trip from Chicago where they are, to Seattle where the daughter is, they come to realize that the Mayan’s calendar was off by 6 years and the Earth as they knew it is falling apart. The movie ends with the daughter and her lover riding off into the sunrise with a pyroclastic wave almost catching up to their 91 Jeep Wagoneer.

The movie gives us some clues as to what’s going on, but never actually makes a diagnosis of the apocalypse. This is left up to us.

Imagine the fans coming up with a bunch of theories as to how a single event can cause a bunch of random disaster and the producers just sitting in their office chairs throwing darts onto a board and adding whatever it lands on onto the apocalypse list.

Shout out to the Mayans for being able to detect a supernova, discover that the explosion will send a gamma ray burst towards earth, and were able to estimate its time of arrival mostly accurately, give or take 6 years. Those Mayans, man.

So there's no real way to survive this, unless you own one those retrofitted nuclear silos. Though if you emerged from them, there wouldn't be much plant or animal life, if any.

The fact that the movie did not tell us (the viewers) what kind of apocalypse mankind just witnessed just add the chilling and scary mystery to it.

From what I know the best way to protect yourself from dangerous radiation is with water, a lot of water. There is a theory that the Ordovician extection events was caused by a gamma ray burst, at a time when most of life was still in the oceans.

my only caveat is to the end where you say the slower moving particles would finish you off years later. This is unlikely since the solar system will have moved from the area the GRB was directed at or a combination of the orbit of the dead star and our solar system. For them to hit us still would mean that the dead star was following the exact same orbit as our sun in relation to the galactic center.
