In this video, Dr. Berg talks about what would happen if you have gas on a ketogenic plan. Colon cells have these roots that absorb the nutrients passing through the intestines. This is why if you have preexisting problems with your colon cells, it wouldn’t absorb nutrients and it would prevent the combination of certain enzymes in food particles to break down and being absorbed into the cell and end up having the undigested food particles in the intestines. The undigested food would either rot or ferment. He also tackles the sources of overgrowth of the bacteria problem.

Overgrowth of Bacteria (Fermentation Problem):
• Problems with Carbon Dioxide Gas
• Hydrogen Gas
• Methane Gas

Sources of This Problem:
• Antibiotics – Destroy some of the microbes and cause the body to make more of the unfriendly.
• Antacids –When you lose the acidity of the stomach and as you age, you lose the stomach acids.
• Junk Food
• Stomach
• Small Intestines

Recommendation:
1. Adjust the type of fiber to consume.
2. Adjust the quantity of fiber – Start with small and gradually increase over time.

I used to be bloated all the time, and certain foods like broccoli and cabbage gave me really painful gas, but since going keto I eat bucket loads of veggies and am never bloated or gassy. Must have been the combination of vegetables with grains that caused it.

I love the fact that you give us all the details and bring up the biology too. Really a person can learn a lot by watching your videos, and it doesn't cost a thing to watch them. I really appreciate your willingness to share this information.

I'm a 74 y old woman and have all these symptom, adding a hiatus hernia. Had surgery about 30 y ago, preventing me to vomit and no heartburn. Now, I'm suffering the same all over again. Doctors said they will not "touch me". I eat a very balanced diet, no gluten, and exercise in our retirement gym, & play bowls once a week and linedancing. Every night I drink a smaak glass of Bicarbonate of Soda. It helps, but does not cure the problem. Hope I can find bile product here in South Africa.

I like keto because it works. But maaan.... either I don’t poop for a day or 2 OR I’ll be somewhere where I can’t go to a bathroom and have to poop NOW. I absolutely hate it.

He just said the colon cells have villi, which they don't. That would be the small intestines where solid mineral absorption occurs. As a Doctor, how can you get this stuff wrong?

I started keto six days ago and am super gassy. I'm constipated and burp. Every time I go to class, my stomach makes noises and I have to fart... But when I go to the toilet, only a little comes out or none at all but I can feel it in my tummy.

I used to do raw sheep milk yogurt. I made it in my food dehydrator. But I have been off dairy since starting keto because it effects my weight loss.

Methane is an odorless gas. Check Wikipedia, or a chemistry book. The odor of intestinal gas comes from H2S.

Isn’t it ironic how I don’t have bad habits I’ve exercised most of my life and am sick yet my boyfriend who drinks beer loads coffee and a bunch of other bad habits like soda is healthier than I am... while here I am who only drinks water 😒
