Odds are, if you're "feeling" overwhelmed at work, you should look at your habits and process because they likely got you to that point. Going hard for 3 days is probably only going to create a new type of cycle that isn't sustainable. Documenting your work and asking your boss for support sounds nice, and in an ideal organization, you'll get the support. Odds are, though, asking for support is going to negatively impact the dynamics in your work place. If you're feeling overwhelmed at work on a regular basis and it's taking its toll, for the sake of your health and life, find another job.

If you're overwhelmed the last thing you should do is continue the hustle & grind cycle that got you there. That's like expecting to get out of a hole by continuing to dig even faster.

Take inventory of the things you're doing each day and eliminate, delegate or automate those that don't move the needle.

Go down by the river find a place to sit and just watch the waters flow while drinking your favorite beverage ☕️ let the day fly by~

I used to do that - go hard and try to knock it out, and then my body quit cooperating. Adrenal crash. Any gains I made in clearing the plate, were lost to recovery. Then I learned to live triage. I hate it, but sometimes I get a break from fighting fires and get to make progress on my goals. ..

If I’m feeling overwhelmed all I need to fix it is 3-4 12 hour work days !!!

Thanks jocko, for this sustainable tip!

I’m lost. This is a great idea, I’ve done it. I’ve got that turbo button and plowed through but the problems I have faced are; I get buried in voicemails and emails. Which creates the problem of clients complaining to management. Yet my production numbers are through the roof, due to the constant grind. And now at 46, I’m tired of grinding. I don’t get to enjoy seeing a project in depth, I don’t get to see the trees in the forest. All I see now is a forest with screaming birds circling overhead (the voicemails and emails). It’s 2022 and I have never seen a time like I do now where 75% of people expect everything NOW. And they do not want to put effort into much, it’s all about get it off their desk with little effort.

Precise and motivating. This is an actual strategy with no useless details. I’ll try it out and see. Oh and thank you for excluding the fluff.

This won't work for me because even if I go hard for 3 days, new tasks pop up on day 4. There's no way to get ahead of things.

That's great but most of us have kids, families and more important priorities like that which wont allow us to work an 18 hour day. Our families are the reason we are there to begin with so they must take priority.

The challange is when you're one year behind (if not 10), and need to put in 18 hour days 7 days a week for a long time. And are both short on money and experience pressured from every side. And should have spent time with your own family. I haven't listened enough to Jim Rohn; discovered him and his teaching too late.

One way to stop being overwhelmed is to get rid of the small task first

I am so overwhelmed with my work that I don't have any energy to do even more... I also don't have the energy to hang myself after work.. that would probably help with being overwhelmed

But what if you have tried and gone full assault mode months on end, and you cant seem to make any headway and work is not giving you any support? Isn't it better to give up at that point? Being on the offense too much is a recipe for burnout and disaster.

lol, i like the sentiment, but this isn't exactly great advice for people who feel overwhelmed BECASUE they are doing 12, 16, 18 hour work days all the time. The position I find myself in.

Asking for support is good on the other hand. But not exactly an option in every circumstance.

Ha. Tell this to any nurse or doctor.
Get me some more help. They'll laugh right at my face.
