With over 20 years in public health, Toni Yancey understands that kids (and the rest of us) need to move! The explosion of obesity in this country is a reflection of not only an unhealthy diet, but also a result of Americans' sedentary lifestyles. Dr. Yancey developed Instant Recess® to improve health and productivity by incorporating 10-minute activity breaks into the work or school day. Evidence shows it's a valuable tool in fighting the obesity epidemic, and growing your bottom line -- whether the bottom line is profits or academic performance.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)

RIP Dr. Yancey. She was my pediatrician at the group home I lived in the 1990s (Brooklyn, New York). She went above and beyond with all of us. When I was about to age out of the system I didn't have a job to support myself and she convinced a friend that owned a marketing agency to hire me. That job allowed me to move into an apartment with a roommate. I was never homeless again. She didn't have to do that for me. At the marketing agency the photographer gave me a picture of her during her modeling days. I still have that picture 30 years later.

I can’t believe it’s been 10 years she has been gone already. She really made a dent in this world.

Excellent presentation. Wish we could have you visit Ghana to help us in our advocacy to fight NCDs and elevating physical activity among youth and children in Ghana.
