No one is more obsessed with pitching velocity than college coaches & mlb scouts. My velocity was consistently inconsistent anywhere from 88-94 mph but got lucky with having a lot of late life on my FB. Catchers hated catching me because my ball had a lot of late movement. I always wanted to be a pitcher since little league but all my coaches told me I wasn't a pitcher so never really got a chance. First time I ever got to pitch was during a game in the NABA 18 and over wood bat open division Arizona world series when I was 19. Threw a 2 hitter & somehow got someone's attention because I got offered a D2 scholarship that tournament. After pitching in college I ended up pitching professionally in Mexico for a few years. Its crazy how one lucky day changed my entire life.

Good message here coach. It’s definitely one of the great things we can rely on in your videos - good advice that come from real experience. Thank you.

2nd year Head Varsity HS Coach here (8 years total) and I love that I found your page randomly. This is great insight for this generation of players. I keep telling my guys that velo will come as they grow and get stronger. But throwing strikes and hitting spots is what I preach to everyone on the team (JV and V). "helping my team win, getting hitters out" is the best quote here. I will definitely use that with my guys. I also read an article that a PA HS team won the state championship with a pitcher throwing 82... They played lock-down defense and the pitcher hit his spots. I am excited to dive into more of your content.

Thanks, Coach!

it was unhealthy for me. My arm was gone before I graduated high school. I try to teach all my kids this exact lesson from the video. Good stuff, keep it up

Every one wants to be a Ferrari but can't handle the gear shifter. I prefer to see my players learn how to work the pitch and gradually increase velo through mechanics. Your videos are top notch I've blown through a ton of your shorts.

Velo isn't everything. Both my kids train with a AA pitcher. My 10yo has a lot of power. Hits over 200ft and throws just shy of 60mph with moments that seem over. Great accuracy too.
My 8yo who is a lefty and is the better pitcher. He throws at 50 typically, but generates so much spin that the ball drifts a lot depending his grips. A simple split grip shoot inside of a right handed batters, his slider comes in a diagonal swerve to the inside of lefties. On top of that he prepares for his hitters. Kids and coaches are far more fearful of him than a typical 4seam with a lot of velo that comes in the strike zone clean.

Is it fair to say that, coaches will see velo as an asset and make it easier to teach command versus having good command but struggling with velo in this day and age, coach? Specifically, talking genetics like height, muscle mass etc. TIA
