I know some people with pretty bad allergies, though yhis one made me think it was less of an allergy than it was being difficult. Still though, I do know a vegan who has coeliac disease and is lactose intolerant. She had such a hard time finding something for her wedding cake. I really felt for her as people sometimes treated her like she was being difficult, when she just really couldnt eat things.

And how pray tell does one MAKE a lobsterless cake I ask you? Famously the key ingredient in all pastries, next thing you know they'll be telling you to leave out the anchovie paste in the buttercream icing recipe!

That’s literally me. 😂 I have something called Hereditary alpha-tryptasemia and am prone to anaphylaxis. Something I’m even mildly sensitive to can pull the trigger. Xolair just got cleared for food allergy treatment, thank goodness.

i still remember this lady who came to the coffee place I worked at to order a latte an a waffle with cream and sprinkles. She supposedly had a milk allergy, mind you not a lactose intolerance. a straight up much rarer and leads to your bowls exploding milk allergy. When asked she said to not worry it only happens with liquid milk so a latte and cream are fine...Those people gave me the confidence that I can make it through Uni. I might be dumb, but clearly not that dumb

To be fair if I ask for no lobster and someone says there's no molluscs (clams, snails, octopuses...) I'd still want confirmation that there's no crustaceans or general shellfish (which is crustaceans _and_ molluscs).

Maybe not if I'm at a bakery though

My dad can't eat gluten (celiac), milk (the protein & lactose) or eggs. For decades he ate very bland tasting bricks of bread, only able to add flavor with jam or fruit when trying to bake. He absolutely loved the gluten free trend that started in the 00's and 2010's, because now there was finally flour and recipes of stuff he could eat!

And then he immediately became a diabetic.

I had a customer tell me they were allergic to SALT! Not that they were low sodium, but allergic to salt. They were ordering a margarita...

How do you eat a cake without flour? I’m sure you could’ve offered to make it with rice flour or potato flour or something but given the previous conversation he’s probably just going to say “I’m allergic!” 🤦🏻‍♀️
