Love this channel and I'm envious of the beautiful red metal flake tele. It would be helpful if you showed a graphic of the wiring diagram. I sorta got it, but I'm not entirely sure. I do understand the "mechanics" of phasing now, however.

Great Man! You saved my life cause I bought New à Yosemite Telly pup set and found that the neck pup had an issue: at the factory they mixed the hot and the ground wires. So I had this " low volume ducky, " kind of sound and so I tried many things that didn't work .( 3 wires for the neck pup ) I then tried to switch the 2 Bridge pup wires but I forgot completly the brass plate of the lead pup. So it was buzzing as soon as I am touching the strings or near the pickups ! Now I got it ! 👍👍👍 I will reconnect the right wire to the plate and it will rock on !!! Thank you so much my friend ! Daniel 😉 from France

Nice. I was a noob and ordered the tele bridge pickup without considering wind direction...woops.
Now I know how to fix it!

Exactly the information I thanks Dylan

Would have loved to see you show the soldering work.

I think I get it but unfortunately the video skips showing the most important steps near the end.

Thanks, I fixed it now. I bought DiMarzio Area T (kinda of humbucker), I had pickups out of phase. I just reversed bridge's wires. Pickup has no third cable for ground. All good now!!

Great explained&helpful! One thing: If the middle position was hum free before- it isn´t hum free anymore after this mod, right?

Like other commentors I was with you until you unsoldered and soldered a new wire. You glossed over that part which was most important. Would like to see your work.

Hey Dylan, so if I unsolder the ground from the baseplate, do I solder a wire to the ground I just unsoldered then solder it to the back of the pot?
Then what about the third wire you are talking about? Where does that go?

out of phase or reverse phase? reverse phase you will generally lose volume..

Just baught a used tele and did exactly this, because the middle position lost mids and volume. Thank you very much!

It should be noted that you can do the same thing for the neck pickup for the 4 way switch mod which I highly recommend. That extra series position is great. Even if your tele pup's arent RWRP I still recommend the 4 way mod for the extra series middle position. I just built a tele (vintage white nitro finish, black guard, all mahogany except the maple fretboard) and I used a set of Fender Tele Pure Vintage 64's. They arent RWRP (so both coils are wound the same direction and both coils are North up) so in the middle positions there is still hum. People will say the series position is too noisy without RWRP but it isnt any noisier than if you turned up the volume slightly. The regular parallel middle position is around 4k and in series it's a little over 13k. On their own the bridge pickup is 6.3k and the neck is 7.4k. I could use the series position as it is (non RWRP) forever and be just fine with it. But since I have an extra set of pure vintage 64's I'm going to make the set in the tele I built RWRP by flipping the polarity and winding orientation of the neck pickup. I'm just waiting on a more suitable Neodymium magnet (should be here today in fact).

Hi Dylan, I was wondering if you could tell me where I would find a diagram of how to use a push pull pot in the tone position to get an out of phase sound in the middle position with regular Telecaster single coil pickups. Budda Guedes on his channel plays a Telecaster with this mod but doesn't show you how to wire your guitar like this. Any help would be much appreciated. If you were to make a video on this would be great

Hi Dylan, I have a question for you: Humbuckers have a bare grounding wire in addition to the shielded one. Does this one ground the PU cover, only (independently from the phase swapping)? Greetings from Germany!

Hi. I am wondering what the cure is for the nasal notch sound on my telecaster after adding a 57 Gibson humbucker to the neck. It is a single wire to the selector switch and then a ground to wire to the tone pot that I added. Wondering what I would need to do to fix the nasal sound which I am assuming is out of phase as well.

Hey Dylan, if you make the ground wire hot then what happens to the hot wire ??? Do you leave it out taped ??

Can humbuckers be out of phase with each other? Say one neck and one bridge?
