Birddog is COMPLETELY different from any variation of crunch — it targets different muscles altogether. That’s like saying dumbell curls are “better” than lateral raises. Also, your form needs work: you are causing a hip rotation on your right side. And the point of this exercise is create dynamic isometric stability in the NEUTRAL spine position. Not the flexed position as you are performing it. Thats because you’re trying to make it about the rectus abdominus (hence your crunch comment). But the birddog is more about the bracing the transverse abdominus and other stabilizers. Sorry, this video is whack.
