Do you or someone you know have lower back or 'SIJ' pain? Tag your friends and family! This little maneuver will help to stretch the hips and lower back and may even result in a self-mobilization or 'popping' sound. This popping sound is similar to cracking your knuckles. If you have a lot of instability in your pelvis (one glute that is weaker than the other, one hip flexor that is weaker than the other, etc) then your sacroiliac joint (SIJ) can get aggravated and 'locked.' This stretch can help to provide some temporary relief for the lower back, but if the imbalance is not addressed, the pain will most likely come back. Use a stretch like this to help reduce pain so that you can do your corrective exercises.

If you find yourself doing this kind of stretch or 'release' exercise every day, multiple times a day, it is time to stop doing it and focus on strengthening the muscles around the pelvis and hips. Continuing to pop your joints every day may create more instability in the area. For any joint in the body, if you constantly 'crack' your knee, hip, back, neck, shoulder, etc throughout the day, it is a clear indication that you have not been moving efficiently. For the case of the lower back and SIJ, most people have one glute, hamstring, hip flexor, QL, or abdominal muscle that is weaker than another. This results in a twisting of the pelvis, hips, and spine and can misalign joints.

I woke up just now at 5am and my lower back was tense, and I did this before even looking up any video on lower back cracking. Let me just say that shit felt amazing! From the lower back to the middle of my back all cracked. For anyone trying do this, I slight gave a good push on my leg down while pushing in on my lower back. 1st time cracking my lower back like this btw and I’m 27.

Also, anyone who thinks that have Sciatica without actually feeling horrendous burning lightening flashing down their leg is just mental.

I’m lucky I can do this myself for temporary relief. I wouldn’t be doing any yanking motions and pushing too hard for the “crack” though. Especially if you have disc issues.

I can’t live like this anymore I’ve had a slipping si joint since 21 now 41 crippled me. I’ve explained to hip and spine Drs that when I pop it pain is alleviated but they don’t listen. I have an indent in bottom of buttcheek that I don’t have in other cheek. The pain in that dent is extreme also in upper back of thigh. It feels like a suction cup is there t feels so tight and wrong. I don’t know if it’s a hamstring tear, snapping hip syndrome cause the groin pops hard. The left buttcheek problem area feels attached wrong 100 Drs 20 years later wasting away and no one has helped me. All my dreams gone I’ve been offered an si injection and bursectomy cause my hip is huge swollen burns like fire in butt, hamstring and tailbone.

That’s how I fall off my bed on es I pop the si in place. Problem is I need this 100 times a day can’t take it anymore. There’s a better way to put that si in place I can show you cause I’m the one suffering and needs it. No chiro can do it the way I need it but myself they never get it all the way.

I'm from South Africa so can't afford to come all the way you Guys in the States.

So what IS going to fix the problem? I have had my SI joint professionally adjusted numerous times and the joint never seems to stay where it needs to be.

When I pulled it up to the chest a little like you said it hurt the buttox... In the middle.of the cheek. Why?
