Narcissists are known for their manipulative tactics and ability to twist arguments in their favour. Here are 8 hidden tactics they often use to win arguments:

1. Ad hominem personal attacks: Instead of addressing the issue at hand, narcissists will attack the person they are arguing with, questioning their intelligence or character in order to discredit their argument.

2. The strawman: Narcissists will misrepresent or exaggerate their opponent's argument in order to make it easier to attack and appear superior.

3. Appeal to authority: They will often name-drop or cite a supposed expert in an attempt to shut down any opposing views, making it seem like their argument is supported by someone credible.

4. Appeal to popular opinion: Narcissists will try to sway the argument by appealing to what is popular or accepted by the majority, rather than focusing on the actual facts or logic.

5. Circular reasoning: Instead of providing evidence or reasoning, narcissists will often just repeat their own statements over and over again as if it proves their point.

6. Appeal to emotions: They will use emotional manipulation to steer the argument in their favour, playing on their opponent's feelings to distract from the actual issue.

7. Moving the goalposts: Narcissists will constantly change the terms of the argument in order to avoid being proven wrong or cornered in a debate.

8. Red herring: They will introduce irrelevant or misleading information to distract from the main point of the argument, making it difficult for their opponent to maintain focus and stay on topic.

By being aware of these tactics, one can better navigate arguments with narcissists and recognise when they are trying to manipulate the conversation to serve their own agenda.

My narc has a zero sum mentality and tries to argue even when we're in agreement about something if I agree for a different reason.
