So it's been 3 months since I had my burn on my leg. It's healed up pretty well but still has a lot of healing to do. I share more about how I've taken care of it, after care, supplies I used, how much it all cost and more. I hope you find this useful, do drop a like and a comment if you have any questions!

This video just took me 5 years back to when I burned the exact same leg at the exact same place as you with boiling water from a kettle while making a tea. Your pictures reminded me of what my leg looked like back then and how hard the whole healing proces was. Some people still don't understand how traumatizing that whole thing was for me and that even today I am afraid of boiling water and very careful with it. The scar on my leg has since faded, but I will always be scarred inside. Chloe you are so strong! I am so so glad it is healing, take care Chloe, love u.

Hi Chloe, Thirteen years ago I burned my arm with a pressure cooker. I was cooking soup and I did make a mistake when I opened the pressure cooker. I burned my whole arm and on the other side my wrist. Thankfully my mom heared me swearing in the kitchen and she said: what are you doing? I said I burned myself! The first thing what she did was cool my arm for 5 minutes with lukewarm water. In the meantime my mother cutted carefully my shirt. Then I took a lukewarm shower for about 25 minutes. My mom called my dad and he said that if de damage is bigger than a coin you should immediately go to the docter. So my mom and I went to the docter. The docter said that I had a second/third degree burn (looked the same as yours, but I feld nothing. I think that I burnt some of my nerves). He treated my arm and wrist with Silver sulfadiazine for four weeks (Yes.. I saw my docter (in the Netherlands) more than 10 times in four weeks. He used a very thick layer on my skin and I think that my cream was stronger than yours?). My skin went grey and very dry (that is normal and will disappear after 5 weeks). The next step was using Petroleum Jelly (to make the skin soft again, I have never used other products) and I had to avoid the sun with my arm and wrist. I stopped 4 months with judo, because I could damage my skin forever. I used 2 years arm protection with judo. After 2 years I showed for the first time my arm in the sun (this is very important, the sun can damage your skin!!). I use every time sun protection SPF 50 (UV A and UV B protection). After 8 years it was (almost) completely healed. If I looked closely I saw a very light scar, but it was almost not visible. And now I have to look closely to find my scar (I am 27). If you are very careful I think your burn will heal. I hope my tips will help you. Good luck!

Chloe, I just got first to second degree burns on my thigh and stomach and I’m crying as I watch this. You have no clue how helpful this is to me. I’m crying as I’m watching this. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

That’s crazy! I spilt a kettle of boiling water on my hand back in October. I was a bit luckier, since it was on my hand so it wasn’t as big (covered about half the back of my hand and 1/4 of the front, as we’ll as part of my thumb and pointing finger lol) but! It was only second degree not third degree. I can’t imagine how painful that must be, especially on your leg.
If you ever get a burn like this, especially if it’s from steam or water, put it under cold water immediately! Wet burns continue to burn and essentially cook your skin the longer they’re left, and putting cold water on the burn stops that. That stops you from getting a worse burn.
And, if you’re like Chloe or me and you notice that your skin has peeled away go to the hospital Right Away. The hospital will be able to dress your burn and tell you what to expect and give you pain medication.
I’d also suggest going for weekly check ups, but I’m lucky enough to live somewhere with free health care. But doctors know best. I have minimal scarring now, just some discolouration due to new skin, and I definitely think that’s because I had a wonderful doctor that I saw once a week. Doctors are also able to give you dressings for free and then you can be sure you have the best possible!
While my hand freshly burned I kept it bandaged for 72 hours, and then went to the dr to get it checked up on (very important because second and third degree burns can get infected!!) and then got the burn re-dressed but with special burn gauze and a little bit loose. I then got a check up once a week, and by the third week I was changing my bandages by myself at home. When you do this it’s important that the burn has started to scab over a bit. Then you wash it with a bit of water and let it air dry in a clean environment before bandaging it. It took just over 4 weeks for me to get my bandages off, and this was when the new skin grew back completely. Then I just had to deal with scabbing (and leaving the scabs until they fell off naturally). When it comes to this you have to keep it hydrated, so I used Vaseline for the first three days to really moisturize my hand and then switched to aveeno! It’s also good to use polysporin as this helps heal scarring.
Also keep in mind that if you have a second or third degree burn (any burn where skin is burned off) Do Not get it wet while the skin is raw (minus the one time of running it under cold water) and do not put any substances like honey or aloe on it. Only put what doctors tells you to put on it. It’s an open wound and can get infected really easily so keep it bandaged while you go outside! Look out for puss and weird smells!
If you burn your hand I also suggest stretching your hand so that the new skin heals properly and the scar won’t be too noticeable

It’s normal for severe burns to take a while to heal and very normal for these scars to last quite a while! It just takes time and patience

You're super lucky. When I got 3rd degree burns, I had to get a skin graft. I'm left with some pretty messed up scars for life all along my left leg.
Alone vera on a fresh burn scar will actually trap the heat into area, which is why it causes the scar.
Good job on your consistency with cleaning.

I've got a couple things to say, but the most important of them is this: It isn't shallow for someone to be concerned about their looks, whether they're pretty or not. That is doubly true when their looks are changing; they have to battle with their self-reality suddenly not matching their self-perception. Three months on, Chloe has mad that adjustment in her self-perception, but it would be different if the scar was on her face and not her leg. That isn't a dig, it just that our faces are much more a part of our self image than our legs. And it's one of the biggest parts about how other people perceive us. If people didn't treat us differently based on the way we look, no one would care what they looked like. Anyone who tells you differently is delusional.

Running cool/cold water over your burn allows the damaging heat stuck in your skin to be "washed" away. 10 minutes for minor burns, 20 for major burns, no arguments. It will probably go numb from the cold, which is a fringe bonus, though it won't stay numb long once the water is off. If it blisters, chars, peels away, stays numb, or is large enough for you to think it's BIG, go straight to the ER. If it's hands, face, feet, or groin; call 911 or 000 immediately; you'll need a special hospital.

Products marketed as Aloe Vera Gel usually have other things in them. If you take it straight out of the plant, you should have different results, but it's mostly just for soothing. It does 100% of nothing to cool a burn.

My only skin healing trick is liberal amounts of wound gel or Vaseline wrapped in plastic wrap. I had a mystery wound on the ball of my foot, my dermatologist had no idea what it was. She gave me some tubes of stuff, really just to keep it moist and lubricated and told me to wrap it in cling film. She was hoping that whatever it was would grow out. It didn't, but it did stop it from digging a bloody hole in my foot. The constant moisture caused the skin to grow very quickly, whatever was wrong caused it to peel off just as quickly. Two years later, after asking everyone who went to any kind of medical school including my dentist, I showed it to an old country doc who said he'd seen it once before. There was a nearly microscopic hole in my skin, which he told me was a plain old garden wart growing inside out. He burnt it off and the entire ball of my foot healed quickly and without a mark.

I'm so glad to see your burn is healing up nicely!! Burns take so long to heal and seeing how quick your healing has been eased my mind a little bc I was hoping your burn wasn't painful in the workout videos you've been posting. I have a burn mark on my hand from almost ten years ago and I've just accepted the fact that it's probably going to be there forever.

Only a few weeks ago I burnt my hands really bad in an oil fire. I was quickly taken to the ER. I was then transferred to a burn unit. I had 3rd degree burns on 3 of my fingers and the rest had 2nd degree. It’s been a few weeks after now. I have had to do physical therapy and message therapy. The scars aren’t too terrible but it still freaks me out that I lost a bit of the feeling in one of my fingers. It does get better!! I am a bit emotionally scarred, I have a really hard time making food in a pan because it reminds me of my accident. Especially when steam or smoke is involved. Skin heals slow but it takes even longer to emotionally heal. My heart goes out to everyone who has experienced something traumatic like a burn!!
